My Story

Meet Dopey - or Captain Dopes if you're talking to his foster mom! Dopey was once a scared, jumpy little bunny. He would charge at the hands and faces of shelter volunteers reaching into his condo, box us away, and grunt out of pure fear. We have no idea why Dopey was like this - and we were always so patient and kind to him at the shelter to keep him as happy as possible. We quickly learned that caging Dopey at all was not the answer. In fact, he needed SPACE. His foster mom swooped in and saved him, literally. Dopey is one of those bunnies who just does not do well in a bustling shelter - and we don't blame him! If you asked us at the beginning of the year what Dopey was like - we would be writing something totally different. We are so so so so happy to report that...... Dopey is a HAPPY little friend! He binkies and zoomies everyday with joy, charges up to his foster parents for gentle pets, and loves to play with his cat tunnel. Dopey takes treats from hands like a true gentleman and is eager to see you in the morning. He's an excellent hay eater and has PERFECT litterbox habits (seriously, his foster mom has never seen a cleaner bun). Dopey loves to explore, and likes to sneak into forbidden areas of the house. He is also constantly curious about what's going on, and is very often underfoot. Despite all of this wonderful improvement, Dopey's communication style is just inherently a little different than other rabbits, and he needs to go to a home who has a solid understanding of bunny behavior, body language, socialization, and communication. Due to his behavioral quirks, we don't recommend Dopey for a home that has never had a bunny before. As mentioned above, Dopey does poorly when he's in an enclosure of any type and requires a home that has the ability to start him out in a small area (so he doesn't get overwhelmed) and transition him into a full room of his own or free-roam across the entire house. Dopey is a part of our HRN family forever - and we are so excited for him to land his perfect, forever home. Is it you? Apply to learn more about him today!
