My Story

Highlights: -Could do well with young kids -Could do well with a tolerant dog or as only dog I am part of the "Go BIG for Summer" adoption promotion and my adoption fee is reduced to $200 (instead of $350) through August 31st! Meet Zuma, a four-year-old, 47 pound spirited Chocolate Labrador Retriever Mix. Vibrating with excitement as people pass by his kennel, Zuma eagerly awaits someone to notice his charm. At his kennel gate, he vocalizes with his big, booming bark, but once a visitor enters, he showers them with kisses and affection. Inside his kennel, he bounces around with excitement, eagerly rolling over for belly rubs. Outside, Zuma relishes in long walks where he can indulge in the adventure of smelling countless scents. Zuma is a bit socially awkward with other dogs, but he wants so badly to befriend them. He has done best with tolerant, female dogs so far who don't mind his excited vocalization and quirks. He would be willing to meet any canine companions to see if it's a good fit, but he would also do fine as a solo dog. More than anything, he wants to be surrounded by a family (and maybe a stuffed toy or two). With a love for treats and a heart full of love for humans, Zuma is poised to make the perfect active companion for a family who enjoys adventures. He eagerly awaits his chance to be adopted from National Mill Dog Rescue, ready to bring joy and excitement to his forever home. - - - - - - Prior to being rescued, many of our dogs have experienced minimal socialization. As a result, there is often an adjustment period when learning about life as a family pet. We typically do not adopt to homes with young children. Homes with older children will be considered on an individual basis. Common skills such as house training and leash walking will often take extra time. Patience, understanding and a gentle hand are a must. The great news is, many of these dogs come around with patience and being a part of their rehabilitation is an extremely rewarding experience.
