My Story

Highlights: -Needs a fenced yard -Needs patient adopter -Prefers other calm dogs -Would do best with older children Hello, I'm Zoey, a nine-year-old Shiba Inu weighing in at 21 pounds. Life has made me quite timid, and I'm still learning to trust people. Right now, I'm not a fan of being picked up or held, and I tend to get pretty stiff when carried. But with time and patience, I will take treats from a human once I feel comfortable around them. I'm on a journey to find my comfort zone with other dogs. At first, I can be a bit awkward and even a little grumbly, but given some time, I start to come out of my shell and try to initiate play with my furry friends. When I do start to warm up, I make the cutest little play bows to let you know I'm ready to engage. I'm adaptable and could be happy either as the only dog in a home or with a canine companion that I feel comfortable with, but a home with a secure 5-foot fence is essential for me to feel safe and sound. I'm just starting to investigate toys and might soon discover the joy they can bring. I'm trying very hard to come out of my shell and embrace the world around me. If you have the patience and love to help me feel safe and cherished, I could be the loyal and gentle companion you've been looking for. Let's take this journey together-will you be my forever home? - - - - - Prior to being rescued, many of our dogs have experienced minimal socialization. As a result, there is often an adjustment period when learning about life as a family pet. We typically do not adopt to homes with young children. Homes with older children will be considered on an individual basis. Common skills such as house training and leash walking will often take a little extra time. Patience, understanding and a gentle hand are a must. The great news is, most of these dogs come around rather quickly and being a part of their rehabilitation is an extremely rewarding experience.
