My Story

Zoe is a 3 1/2 year old great pyr/lab mix. Zoe is a special needs girl who will need a special family to make her health and safety a priority. Zoe was with our rescue as a puppy. She got adopted by a family but was returned a couple of years later. The return family stated that she was becoming somewhat food aggressive with their dog. We realized something was off when Zoe was returned. Aside from her being tremendously overweight (like 145 lbs), she didn't look and act quite right. It didn't take long to realize Zoe was blind. She was running into walls, furniture, you name it. Zoe also had some somewhat smelly skin and ears. Zoe has been treated for fungal infections and since it's been hot and she's a bigger girl, she also struggles keeping the chub rub at bay. Zoe has been taking thyroid medication as her thyroid panel was borderline and we were hoping this would help with her constant hunger and weight issue. Zoe has seen several doctors and has even been to see a canine dermatologist to help with ears, skin, etc. Zoe's ears had cleared up but we suspect this might be a lifelong monitoring situation. She gets topical dermatology medication monthly and she struggles with the worst case of doggy dandruff we have ever seen. She enjoys being brushed and she enjoys any type of attention. Zoe is on prescription Science Diet food for her skin issues and weight. She cannot be free fed as she will never stop eating. Her food intake has to be monitored. Zoe does take a thyroid pill once daily and she can have some special dermatology approved treats for being a very good girl. Despite Zoe's issues, she loves her foster mom. She has mastered the head tilt and she enjoys a nice soft dog bed. She is housebroken for the most part. And she does get along with most all her furry siblings. But if she feels someone is trying to eat her food, she may get a little growly. Zoe would have to be tested with other pets. She seems to do better with smaller dogs. Zoe would do best in a home with a fenced yard. She also would do better in a single story home. Zoe is crate trained but doesn't really enjoy her time in one. Zoe is spayed, up to date on vaccinations and microchipped. She has lots of love to give. If interested, please visit sparkyrescue.com/adopting and complete an application.
