2/10/07 UPDATE: GREAT NEWS FOR ZIPPY, HE WILL BE HAVING HIS EYE SURGERY ON VALENTINES DAY TO RESTORE HIS VISION THANKS TO MANY GENEROUS PEOPLE WHO HAVE DONATED TO HIM. MORE GOOD NEWS, ZIPPY HAS A NEW MOM AND DAD WHO WILL BE TAKING HIM HOME AFTER HIS SIGHT IS RESTORED! ZIPPY WILL BE MOVING TO AN ACRE OF LAND WHERE HE CAN RUN AND PLAY WITH HIS NEW DACHSHUND FRIEND "BUDDY". ZIPPY MUST BE THE LUCKIEST DOG I KNOW UPDATE: ZIPPY HAS FINALLY BEEN NEUTERED AND HAS BEEN TO THE DOGGIE EYE DOCTOR. THE CATARACTS IN ZIPPY'S EYES MUST BE FIXED OR HE COULD POSSIBLY LOSE HIS EYES IN A FEW YEARS. THE COST TO DO THE CATARACT REPAIR SURGERY IS JUST SHORT OF $3800. Zippy is a mini (about 10lbs) red smooth coat male Doxie about a year old. This adorable little guy wound up at the animal shelter and nobody came to reclaim him. After being there for more than 14 days he became ill with a severe case of kennel cough and rescue was called to pull this little guy and get him some medical attention. Once we got Zippy home we noticed he is almost blind, he has severe cataracts in both eyes. While this is not in no way slowing this guy down, we are concerned that the cataracts will worsen and he will be totally blind. Zippy is only about a year old and this would be a terrible shame. Once we treat the kennel cough and Zippy can go see the veterinary ophthalmologist, we intend to see if he is a candidate for corrective surgery. If cataract surgery is an option we would like to have it done asap. Please keep checking back for updates on Zippy.
