My Story
Zelle is a heartwarming terrier mix, tipping the scales at a healthy 49 pounds and celebrating her birthday in May 2021. Her journey to our shelter is a testament to the love and care of her previous owner, who made the selfless decision to find her a new, loving home.
Zelle’s personality is as sweet as they come. She’s a magnet for affection, always on the lookout for a kind hand to give her pets and cuddles. Her love for peanut butter is only matched by her love for people, and she’s crate trained, finding comfort and security in her own special space.
This playful goofball has a penchant for digging and exploring, so she’ll need a watchful eye during her outdoor escapades. On the leash, she’s a dream, walking with grace and responding well to gentle guidance. Treats are the way to her heart, making training a joyous and rewarding experience for both Zelle and her future family.
Zelle’s inquisitive nature makes her the perfect companion for local outings or grand adventures. She’s shown she can get along with other dogs and even feline friends, making her a versatile addition to any household.
Zelle was brought to our shelter as an owner surrender with her other dog companion, Phil. When she first arrived we didn't know that she was actually pregnant! As her tummy got bigger and bigger, she became known as Zelley Belly to all the Staff and Volunteers who walked her everyday. Knowing that our shelter is not the best place for her to have her puppies, being that it is a stressful and loud environment, we sent her to our Prison Training Program, where she would have her own special place to give birth, and just a short time after settling in there, it was puppy time! Zelle had a total of 6 puppies, but unfortunately 4 of them did not make it. But she has been just the best mama ever to her remaining 2! Zelle is now able to go home as a Foster to Adopt since her puppies are weaned and eating puppy food. As a Foster to Adopt, that means that you would be able to take Zelle home to settle in to her new life while waiting for her upcoming spay surgery. Once she has her surgery, her adoption would be finalized that day and it would be official!
Zelle is not just looking for a house; she’s looking for a home where her playful spirit and loving heart will be cherished. She has been through so much in these last couple of months and she has remained such a sweetheart with a love bug personality. Her loving and caring nature has only grown watching watching how well she would take care of her puppies. If you’re ready for a loyal companion to join you on life’s journey, Zelle is waiting with a wagging tail and an open heart. She’s more than just a good girl; she’s the perfect friend you’ve been searching for.
