Zane

Handsome, loving Zane is a 2-yr old, 40 lb Australian Shepherd mix. A fan of a simpler life and days gone by, his taste in music gravitates to the oldies. In fact, he chose “I Only Want to Be with You” by Dusty Springfield as his personal theme song. Zane is an old fashioned guy who loves simple things: car rides, long walks and hanging with his person top the list. Going for a walk is on his “must do” list each day. He also loves time in the fenced yard, walking the perimeter and doing a bit of squirrel patrol. Zane is a proficient home office supervisor, yard work companion and movie date. If we’re being honest, he’s also a little on the insecure side. He loves being told he’s a good boy: you can see him swell with pride. He wants a family to help him learn new things (basic obedience, tricks, etc.) to build him up. Zane thrives with gentle structure, respect and positive reinforcement. He can hang out in a crate in the living room, happy to hang there for a couple hours when needed. At night, Zane prefers to sleep crated or on a dog bed in the bedroom, resting through the night, and excited to go outside with you for a romp around the yard after waking up. The ideal people for Zane have experience with Australian Shepherds or other herding dogs and with dogs who are not confident in new situations. They will be with him most of the time. He is the perfect companion for work at home / retired folks with a big fenced yard & enjoy walks and car rides! If Zane were to live in the country, a temporary fence around the house or fenced area would be best while solid recall is built. He has a bit of a prey drive. An adult home is best; young kids make him nervous. Zane can live with a gentle canine companion or can be an only dog. Zane is currently living with three calm, mature herding mixes and they do well together. After a month, he has started gentle play with one of the dogs. Zane offers a variety of services to his new family: squirrel patrol for the yard, constant companionship in or out of the house, and hands down the most affectionate greeting you’ve ever received when arriving home (whether you were gone 5 minutes or 3 hours). He also offers to listen to your favorite music anytime, even if it’s not the oldies. As a foster-based rescue, we do not have a central facility to visit. Meet and greets with specific dogs are arranged once your adoption application (not an inquiry through Petfinder) has been received, processed, and approved. We are located in Minnesota and adopt to an area 400 miles from Minneapolis/St. Paul. Zane's special needs adoption fee is $250+ MN sales tax. He is neutered, microchipped, heartworm negative and up to date on age-appropriate vaccines. All of our dogs go to new homes with a collar and harness, leash, starter food, blanket, favorite toys & treats. They are current on flea/tick and heartworm prevention.
