My Story

Duke is a fawn Mastiff, just under 2 years of age. His owner relinquished him to a shelter with the comment of "no time for him." Gee, we've never heard that one before. Duke is extra tall and lanky for a Mastiff. He weighs 130 pounds presently, but will fill out more in time. Duke seems friendly to all and has not shown any dog aggression (introductions are still underway). It is apparent that the prior owners did not do much training with this guy...he can get too frisky and sometimes jumps and bounces all around and on people. That needs to stop, as he is tall and strong! His leash walking skills are atrocious, and we are working on that and he is improving. We are also working on learning basic commands. Duke does not seem to be a big barker and is FANTASTIC in a crate; quiet and calm and seems to like it. He also travels beautifully in a car. The criteria to adopt Duke are as follows: fenced yard, kids 12 and up (or adults only), must attend obedience classes, must have some prior successful experience with dog training, must be tolerant and patient with puppy behavior in a huge package. must realize Duke will be a conversation piece wherever you go and finally, must smile when people joke "Do you have a saddle for him?" and pretend you have never heard that before. The contact is Elaine at a.horwitz@comcast. net or 847-940-0499. And, no, I don't have a saddle for him. Adoption Application
