My Story

Meet Woodrow We love Woodrow. This handsome boy is a gentle giant. He was surrendered to us after his original owner walked away, leaving him locked in an apartment. The apartment worker who found him tried keeping him, but the manager wouldn’t let him. As a result, “Woody” has been safe with us for nearly five years, but living at our shelter is no way to live. Woody is so loved by our staff and volunteers, but our greatest wish is to see him land softly with a person or family of his own. Woody is now 7.5 years old. He’s a gem that deserves so much more in life. Woody loves people. He lives for attention. When he sees his favorite people, his whole body wiggles and he can hardly contain his excitement. In addition to people, Woody lives for water – sprinklers, pools, lakes, hoses, buckets – you name it if it has water Woody loves it! Our favorite summertime fun is to watch Woody jump in the baby pools and splash around. Woody is still an active pup, but he’s calming down and maturing. Woodrow is housetrained. He walks well on a leash and loves going for walks. He also loves car rides. Woodrow is exceptionally smart and learns quickly. He is well behaved in his kennel and out. Woodrow is just a big sweetheart towards people. Woodrow doesn’t seem to like dogs or cats and will do best as an only pet. Having gone without love, food, toys and other resources early on, Woody is known to guard his resources when other dogs are nearby. Woody gets occasional sleepovers with a favorite volunteer. He loves these times away and transitions easily into the home environment. Woody may be a bigger boy, but he lives small and he’s quiet. He needs a fenced yard to play and sun himself. He will make for a fantastic companion for a less active person or family. He’d be a great travel buddy and constant companion. He relishes quiet time, soft blankets a kind hand and snuggle time. He’s well-mannered, friendly, affectionate, calm, quiet, and dignified. Even after five years, he’s still a big, silly and goofy hippo, but lately we’ve seen signs of depression in our once happy hippo. A little less sparkle, a little less excitement and a little less interest in things. Woody needs someone to show him that his life matters and who understands dog behavior and can build up Woody’s confidence again. We pray that his furever person comes for him and gives him his happy back.
