Thier Foster Parent Says: "Yin/Yang. Indoors: serious snuggle bunny. Outdoors: very enthusiastic adventurer/smeller. The outdoor beagle hunter tracker sniffer seems to have an inner house cat when he's indoors. Whatever you are doing, he wants to be RIGHT NEXT to you - or on the laptop keyboard, exercise mat helping with the yoga blocks, or turning the pages of your book. He makes the sweetest snuggle grunts and sighs, like a soft pig. When you are outside, the wild rumpus of sniff and search kicks him into overdrive. Woodbury forgets you are on the planet when you are outside with him. He has total tunnel vision for whatever he has scented. Leash and collar be damned. He's got some his puppy-ness in him - he will try to bite your laces as you tie your shoes, pull the trash bag out of the bin if there's a corner to catch hold of, and will definitely capture stray shoes to take to a spot to gnaw. He's very photogenic, a classic hound with a sort of wise world-weary look. In the city you need to have serious patience when outside and when leash training - letting him get his ya-yas out first. But it's not a look-at your phone kind of walk, because at any moment he could have his head in a hole or wind himself up over a smell on a set of of brownstone stairs or roll in something seriously fragrant (in the worst way). Out of the city he seems to be much happier and walks are easier. He clearly is a grass lover - he just plopped down like it was a royal bed to hang out on. We have a field that he can sniff away in (though he is annoyed by the leash restriction) and that seems to be keeping him very happy and content. He's working on being home alone - will do some initial crying but then settles down. Will do really great in a home with another young pup.
Level of dog ownership experience needed:
INTERMEDIATE: This dog will need significant structure and plenty of daily exercise, training, and mental stimulation 90 consecutive minutes of movement in the morning plus potty break walks and brain games throughout the day. The adopter must have relevant primary care experience with a similar breed, temperament, and/or energy level. (Primary care experience includes ownership, fostering, or dog sitting as an adult, not a dog you grew up with.)
Energy level
MEDIUM: Needs a daily 60-90 minute walk or window of quick paced exercise (minimum) in addition to potty break strolls (10-30 min each). Also needs significant socializing opportunities outside the home and mental stimulation at home like tricks training practice, chew items, and puzzle toys. (This is regardless of dog size many small breeds were designed for lots of activity and will exhibit unwanted behavior when they're understimulated.)
Cuddle bug level:
High - Loves to cuddle
Potty trained?
Yes! - This pup is potty trained
Comfy with strangers?
Yes - Loves to make new friends
Comfortable with children? (ALWAYS requires adult supervision)
Yes - But needs to be 10 and up as he still has puppy like mouth behaviour sometimes
Social with other dogs?
Yes - Okay to live in a home with other dogs. Would do well with a dog similar in age/energy level to him
Respectful of other small animals? (cats, pocket pets, etc.)
Not Sure - has not been cat tested. We are able to do this for approved adopters :)
Mouthy behavior:
Higher - Still has puppy like mouthy behaviour - not so much with humans but will go for objects sometimes
Leash manners:
Working on this skill - adopter will need to continue to leash train this dog. His beagle nose rules his walks.
Okay in the city?
Sort of - sometimes he might be over stimulated but in general doing okay
Separation anxiety?
Working on this - might cry for a few minutes and then settles down
Crate trained?
Not at all Don't even have one, I've puppy proofed and we free range.
How this dog ended up with Social Tees:
Most of our dogs come via partner groups who help us save them from shelters where they are at risk of euthanasia in Tennessee or St. Thomas. There are very few spay/neuter resources there and many more animals in those areas than there are people to adopt them. Rescue groups like ours bring them to the northeast where the desire for pets like these allows us to save their lives.
PLEASE NOTE: We cannot guarantee any breed mix, exact age, or full grown size (if the dog is under a year old). We do our best with very educated guesses though!
This animal is not at the Social Tees office, all are in foster homes.
