My Story
Wolfie Q&A
Q: How long has Wolfie been looking for a home?
A: Wolfie's search started all the way back on August 24th, 2023. Although he found a home fairly quickly, when his first adopters found themselves with custody of their grandchildren, Wolfie had a difficult time coping and had to come back to the shelter. Here for a few more months, our hopes rose when an adopter drove all the way from St. Louis to come meet him. But they were dashed when less than a week later, they asked to return him as he was too low energy.
Q: Is Wolfie friendly?
A: Wolfie is very friendly! He is great with other dogs and with adult humans! However, he is a no-go for children, teens, and cats.
Q: How big is Wolfie?
A: Wolfie is the biggest dog at FFAA right now! He's freshly one year old and seems to just keep growing! Right now he's right under 80 lbs, but he is still filling out. We are currently theorizing that he could be an Anatolian shepherd mix or a Newfie mix.
Q: How will Wolfie do in a home?
A: From all the information we gathered, we believe that his transition to home life will be seamless! He is mostly housebroken, does not tend to be destructive, and is pretty low-key once he has settled in. We were told that he travels well. He was described as not needy but definitely an at-your-side kind of guy.
Q: What is Wolfie's energy level like?
A: Wolfie has low-medium energy, and most of that is still puppyishness. He will likely be a chilled out couch potato once he's finished growing up.
Q: What are Wolfie's favorite activities?
A: Wolfie loves playing in his playgroup! He's gotten along with every single dog we have introduced him to, and he's never happier than when he's running around with them. He's also a big fan of fetch, chewing on bones and sticks, and his food motivation is so high that he LOVES training for treats.
Q: Does Wolfie have any funny or distinguishing quirks?
A: He is super verbal and makes very creative sounds, especially when he's excited or anticipatory.
Q: Does Wolfie struggle with any behaviors?
A: Wolfie has repeatedly shown that in this stage of his life, he does have a difficult time around children, especially those that move fast, are loud, or are invasive of his personal space. He seems to be easily overstimulated dogs, and being young, reacts. However, due to his size and the unpredictability of children, we think that a placement without them would be best. Under the guidance of a trainer and counter-conditioning/positive reinforcement, there is at least a chance that he could be introduced to them and make some new positive associations.
Q: What would be Wolfie's ideal home placement?
A: Wolfie's ideal home placement would be a home without children and cats. Chill or active, he easily matches the energy and is versatile in that regard--he doesn't need to be out and about, but he does enjoy it.
Q: Any information that future adopters should know?
A: Says his previous adopter, "He is an amazing dog. He loves his treats but he knows he needs to earn them. He is good on a leash and has incredible eye contact. He is a lover boy and always is ready for belly rubs. He is easily trainable although he has all the basic skills down." They told us that he picked up new skills and commands at lightning speed! Even when distracted or uncomfortable, he was always ready to listen and obey. He picked right up on recall training, impulse control, sitting and waiting for his food bowl, and was responsive to a verbal correction reminding him to calm down. We know for ourselves that he's got really nice leash manners and does a great job at showing initiative to offer positive behaviors. Truly a gentle giant, Wolfie is kind, chill, intelligent, responsive, eager, affectionate, motivated, and sooo handsome.
