My Story

Winston Wilder is a ball of energy but can be the best little snuggle bug. I chose Wilder as his second name because he reminded me of a frightened wild animal when he came to me on Christmas Day. He was terrified of everything. However, I had family Christmas planned for for the 30th where there would be lots of strangers. Because everyone gave him time and let him come to them it went smoothly. He's progressed so much in the past seven months. Medication has helped his anxiety and a commiment not to suddenly discontinue the Prozac is essential. It would be best if he stayed on it until it had acclimated to your home which may take up to three months. Imagine if you were plucked up and moved to a house of strangers without all your familar things. We're still working on his separation anxiety but I can now leave the house for up to four hours, any longer than that I get a sitter. Someone that works from home or is retired is a requirement for his adoption. He sleeps in my bed and would need someone who would continue that practice. He absolutely hates his nails done and he's the first dog I've been unsuccessful with however, my daughter did them and even though I had provided a muzzle and she used it, she said it wasn't needed. However, she was a dog groomer for over 15 years. I've been conditioning him to the sound of the Dremel. Fireworks, vacuums doesn't even faze him but that Dremel tool does. He loves playing with his foster sisters. It took one month before he would play with the first one and two months for the alpha of the house. He is submissive, non resource guarding and is quite surprised when others are and doesn't mark. He's completely housebroken and pad trained. He knows the difference between a rug and pad. That said he has been used to a dog door. When it is closed he will go to the back door and whine to let you know he needs to go out. He still pulls on the leash a bit but he's usually excited. He was so anxious when I first got him that on our first trip to Lowe's we only made it to the service desk. We can now go all over the store, make purchases and let people fawn over him. It's best that introductions are made slowly with letting him approach when he's ready. He's near sighted so it's best to say his name when you come home. He needs to be in a home where there are no children as they are unpredictable and he can be reactive when startled unless they have been taught the proper way to treat a dog and are patient enough to wait until he lets them know he is ready. He can be quite the pouter when he doesn't get his way. I have tons of videos on my facebook page Boston Foster Jonesborough. If you type in #winstonwider on Facebook most of the posts will come up. Contact Carrie Williamson 423-794-8497 by text or voice, Facebook messenger at Boston Foster Jonesborough or email me at [email protected] Don't be tempted by his cuteness as a reason to adopt him. He's going to need continued training, patience and a whole lot of time to overcome his separation anxiety. The Basics Age: 1yr 11mos Weight: 21.6.
