My Story

It is with such a sad and heavy heart that we have to place Winona up for adoption a third time. Her adopter very sadly passed away after a hard, long fight from very severe injuries he received from being struck by a drunk driver while on his way to meet and pick up Winona back in February. He was a long haul trucker who was so devoted to providing a dog he had never met before the perfect home. He touched many hearts in this rescue and we are so heartbroken for his family. Winona spent two and a half months living with our trainer, but unfortunately has needed to go back to boarding since then. Winona is such an amazing girl who has been through a lot in her two years of life. She came to us last March with a young puppy and has struggled to find a home since then. She has amazing ball drive, loves snuggles, any body of water no matter how big or small, and the occasional French fry. She has basic obedience on and off leash, and does amazing around distractions and out in public on leash . She has been to Lowe's, Bass Pro Shops, parks, coffee shops, and even a Larry Kohn seminar in Arkansas. Unfortunately, due to her rough past, she can be pretty shy while meeting new people, but once she learns you'll play ball with her, she is your best friend. Winona is not a big fan of other dogs (she can be reactive in public if her training is not kept up with) and needs to be the only dog in the house, where she can get your undivided attention. However, she is surprisingly good with indoor cats, even giving them sneaky kisses as she walks by, but any critters outdoors are fair game in her eyes. We are looking for the perfect home for her, because this poor girl deserves the best! Everyone who meets her falls in love with her! Her trainer will also provide multiple free follow up sessions if her adopter are in Tulsa, or zoom meetings for anyone further away. The trainer will also bring Winona back to her house for a free week of training once the adoption is finalized since her previous training was geared towards a life on the road. Please, please, please share her story along so we can get as many eyes as we can on her and find her the perfect home because this poor dog deserves the best chance in life.
