My Story

Winnie is a one vear old mixed pup from Aruba (spaved and utd on shots) who is coming out of a bad first home experience and looking for an immediate (experienced) foster placement. Winnie's previous family was not prepared for the boundless energy of a puppy, and rather than train her, they kept her crated around the clock. Now Winnie is a teenager, bursting at the seams to experience the world around her.. but without any understanding of how to do so without being a bull in a China shop. To put it plainly, Winnie needs a life coach! Winnie is in desperate need of a soft place to land. She has the potential to be a really good dog, but she's starting at the bottom in terms of training and life experience. EVERYTHING is new and overstimulating: from being part of a household, to walking on a leash, to interacting with people and other dogs. She currently has no chill, and needs someone to teach her "how to dog!" We know that the perfect "home in the country with acres to roam" doesn't exist, and honestly, that's not what our girl needs. We think she needs: a home with no small children or small pets (due to her boundless enthusiasm), and a quiet home with time/space to provide structure/training/routine. A well trained canine companion may be acceptable, but the ability to separate and provide 1:1 training as well as supervision is a must. Winnie needs a human to guide her interactions with other dogs until she understands behavioral cues and responds appropriately. (Important: Winnie is not aggressive, but she does not read the "enough, already!" signs from other dogs, and when corrected by another dog, she does not accept the correction and "stand down.") Winnie also needs physical and mental stimulation. Winnie is crate trained and house/potty trained. She weighs approximately 45 lbs. Because these puppies are rescued from the street or the kill cage before being put into foster care, we do not know exact background and only list breed and size by our best knowledge. If exact breed and size are important to you, please look elsewhere. We want our dogs to be adopted by people who will love and care for them forever - no matter what breed and size they turn out to be!
