My Story
Winnie was born to a stray momma in January 2022, the tiny runt of a litter of thirteen! She was brought into rescue as a sickly 4 pound, eight week old puppy, covered in fleas with a belly full of worms and staph infection so bad her fur was falling out. We weren’t sure if little Winnie would make it. In her first few months of life, she braved frequent vet visits, blood draws, invasive exams, and daily intakes of 6+ medications — all with incredible tolerance and cooperation. Winnie was diagnosed with an autoimmune disease, but she persevered with the utmost bravery. Her blood panels started moving in the right direction, even more profoundly than we had imagined! Winnie was successfully weaned off nearly every medication she was on and began enjoying life like the happy carefree dog she deserved to be.
The previously sickly puppy now gallops joyfully through her foster home. She loves to be by her person’s side, falling asleep on your chest, dancing in excitement when you arrive home, or popping her little head in between your legs and staring up at you while you cook. She does a very impressive tap dance and stellar pig noise imitations whenever she gets excited. Winnie has really benefited from having a big foster sister to help teach her how to dog, and would thrive in a home with a fur sibling(s). She’s a petite 28 lbs, and doesn’t demand too much exercise.
Every day is special with Winnie, because her immense fighting spirit shines through in every step she takes. Despite being dealt a tough hand, Winnie has fought for her life every day and is truly an inspiration, especially in your toughest moments. Her autoimmune disease may be something she deals with into adulthood, but it doesn’t stop her from being a wonderful, loving companion capable of living a full and happy long life. Winnie can’t wait to be in her forever home, with humans that will reciprocate the unconditional she gives, and provide her with a life that was worth fighting for.
