My Story

07/05/24 23:11 DOG DAY OUT REPORT FROM LAST WEEK: Today I: got to go on another Dog Day Out but with a new friend! I was such a good boy putting on my harness and leash but I was so excited getting into the car, I slipped and nearly fell out; my friend caught me though and helped me in. I expressed my excitement to every car that passed on our way to Branham Park. I got to go on a 3.5 mile sniffing adventure around the park and the adjoining neighborhood. THEN, my friend surprised me with a stop at Petco - there were some awesome sniffs in there, plus they had A/C! Before heading back to the shelter we stopped for my favorite treat - a PUP CUP! I cant wait for my next adventure; hopefully with my forever buddy the next time. Three Words to Describe Me are: Dignified, Gentle, Vivacious Notes from My Walker: This black stallion is going to make an adventure buddy very happy someday (hopefully soon)! His nose is quite venturous and he loved to bounce back and forth across the path to get all the fun sniffs in. Hes easy to manage on leash; he does keep a tight leash but does not tug - just leads the pack. We didnt run into many people or dogs today but the few we did, he was mostly disinterested and was more focused on smells along the way. He is car reactive though; nearly every car that passed he would bark at and often lunged at them too. The reactivity seemed to be heightened while riding in the car - he barked most of the ride, displaying severe FAS at times. He is treats motivated (which he takes gently) but in instances with passing cars, he is not. Plus it is best to keep him on a short lead, while using both hands when cars are approaching - he is quite strong. Id suggest for future walkers, to take him to larger parks and/or trails; the neighborhood walk was a bit much with cars going by. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Winchester is a big ol goofball! This boy is so tall and lanky and it makes his playbows a fantastic sight to see. Winchester loves toys! He enjoys ball time but his real love is a squeaky toy! When he finds one, he prances around the yard with it or rolls on his back and holds it in his paws. He also loves people and getting pets. He is super treat motivated and knows sit and is learning down. Winchester has participated in one-on-one playgroups with female dogs. He can sometimes be a bit over-exuberant playing with other dogs and needs to be reminded to have some doggie manners. Winchester is also a water dog and can be found playing with the hose spray or checking out the kiddie pool. He enjoys sniffy walks and walks nicely on an easy walk harness. Winchester is sure to put a smile on your face with the big happy smile he always wears! I love Doggie Day Out! Today was my second time on Doggie Day Out and its my favorite. My friend took me out to a nice long trail with lots of smells. We passed people and other dogs. My friend showed me the first time on Doggie Day Out how to pass them politely with treats and we did it again today. Im a good boy and I LOVE treats. I am eager to learn anything for a treat. I love stretching my long legs and walking with my friend and smelling all the smells. I had a great day and I would love a home to do this more often! Three Words to Describe Me are: Goofy, Handsome, Food-Motivated Notes from My Walker: Winchester and I had another lovely day together! Hes easy to harness and readily hops into the car. Today, he was a bit more anxious in the car and would bark at things outside the side window, but immediately stopped when I shortened his seat tether to give him space from the side window. Then he enjoyed looking out the front window and playing with the toy I brought him! I took Winchester to the Coyote Creek Trail starting at Shady Oaks Park and he was such a good boy again! He walks nicely on the front clip easy walk harness with minimal pulling and loves to check out all the smells. He is super food driven and learns quick. He knows sit and down already! We continued building up his good skills on passing other dogs politely by using treats while walking by. This boy is such a smart cookie and quickly caught on to look at me for a treat when passing dogs. Good boy, buddy! When people pass his kennel at the shelter, they see a barky big dog, but hes so great outside of his kennel. Hes a happy, goofy guy that loves to play with toys and go on walks and get pets. At 5 years old, hes not high energy and passed the puppy and teenager stage. Give Winchester a chance and come see for yourself how lovely he is! 4/12/24 Today was the best! I got to go on my first Doggie Day Out. Ive been in the shelter since December so I really loved this break. I was patient while my friend harnessed me and hopped right into the car. My new friend took me to a nice long trail and I just loved checking out all the smells on our nice long walk. There were a lot of people and dogs on the trail. I was curious about the dogs, but my friend encouraged me with yummy treats to pass them politely so I didnt bark. I just love treats so much! I am happy to learn anything for a treat. Afterwards, my friend surprised me with a tasty pup cup! That was so good. I would love a chance for another! Three Words to Describe Me are: Curious, Handsome, Food-Motivated Notes from My Walker: Winchester and I had such a lovely day together! Winchester was patient and easy to harness when I picked him up and eagerly hopped into the car to start our adventure. We headed to the Los Alamitos Creek Trail for our doggie day out. Winchester walked well on the front clip harness. He walks at the end of the leash with tension, but minimal pulling. Hes a happy guy that loves to smell everything so he enjoyed a nice, walking pace. Winchester is very food motivated which makes training fun! He already knows sit and takes treats gently. Hes a smart boy! He would check in regularly and even showed his affectionate side with a full body lean for pets! On the trail, we encountered many walkers, runners, and bicyclists and Winchester politely passed them all. We also encountered many dogs. I used treats to encourage Winchester to pass politely and he was quick to catch on. We even played find it games during busy sections of the trail as dogs passed where I tossed the treat out in front of him. He loved those games! Winchester only barked once on our walk, barking back at a dog that was lunging and barking at him, but it was easy to redirect his focus to treats.
