My Story

FIRST STEPS: Please visit https://www.save-a-mutt.org/adoption-application/ to fill out an application - a Petfinder Inquiry is not the adoption process. We don't do meet and greets until applications have been approved. All our dogs are located IN Washington State - we are a local foster based rescue and no transport from another state required. :) Thanks! --- Meet Willa. She and her siblings came to us in August 2023. Her previous adopters returned Willa to us in April, there were some issues with another dog in their home. Willa came back to us pretty shy and fearful. Her foster mom is amazing with these types of dogs and has worked with Willa - including a recent 'first outing' to a local brewery - she did great! She's eager to greet people that come to the foster's home, and Willa loves the resident dogs - including Spy, who looks just like her but no relation!! Willa can still be a little concerned in new situations. We think a more mellow home with another friendly dog under 5 years old is a must. An adult only home too please, no kids. A fenced yard to run and play - Willa is not a 'barker' per se, but does like to talk - so no apartments for this sweet! She loves to go on car rides and would be a good travel buddy. Her new family will need to give her time to adjust in their new home. The 3-3-3 rule is a guideline for transitioning a rescue dog into its new home and helping it to settle in. It suggests that the first three days should be used for adjusting to its new surroundings, the next three weeks for training and bonding, and the first three months for continued socialization and training. Willa's mommy looked like a dachshund mix, so DNA was a little surprising and is attached in the photos. 17 different breeds. Willa will be a year old in August and is now 26#. This girl is spayed, microchipped and fully vaccinated. When she came back to the rescue, Willa was put on pet insurance and has been cleared orthopedically. Each dog goes home with a goody bag including collar/leash, toys, chews, Kong, and more. You will receive all medical records, microchip transfer form and other paperwork at the time of adoption. Adoption fee is $325. Save-A-Mutt is a registered 501c3 and half of your adoption fee may be tax deductible. Our adoptions are typically done Monday - Saturday, we are closed on Sunday’s to give our volunteers at least one day off. You must be available to do meets and adoptions during that time frame. We can make acceptions only with the approval of the foster home. Please note, we have approximately a 300 mile adoption radius - Portland OR area and Vancouver BC is the farthest north. We don’t ship dogs, once approved you must pick them up in Snohomish County, WA. Canadian adopters must be able to come to Stanwood WA to pick up your puppy.
