Update 5/29/06: We recently started on crate training. For a few hours at most, we put all six puppies into a big kennel. So far results have been wonderful! Potty training is going very well. We've been taking them outside, and they seem to understand that it's where they're supposed to go potty. However, they do not signal that they need to go out. When they first get up from a nap, just after eating, or when they start to sniff around are the times they need outside. They're getting better and coming back in the house on their own when they are done outside. Since we've been going out now, they sleep a lot better, especially right after a good 20 minute play session in the grass! Wendy is currently pending a home check. We are no longer accepting applications right now for her, as we believe the one on file may be "the one" for her. If you'd like to adopt one of her siblings, Ophelia, Omega, and Orlando are still awaiting someone to put in an application for them.
Update 5/23/06: The vet visit went great! Wendy is now current on her vaccinations, and has been deemed healthy! She weighed in at 7.5 pounds. The vet did find that she has a small umbilical hernia, and said that it can be fixed when she is under anesthesia when she is spayed (5-6 months old). Her tail is healing well, but we are holding off on removing the stitches until her scab heals completely. She will be ready to go to her forever home on June 2 (8 weeks old)!
Update 5/20/06: Today the puppies got their very first collars, complete with stainless steel name tags! Wendy has a dark blue collar.
Update 5/18/06: Vaccinations are scheduled for Monday (5/22/06). We will be holding a special adoption day Saturday May 27th from 1-2pm at Pet North in Brainerd. We strongly encourage everyone interested in adopting to please come and meet them in person!
Update 5/17/06: Today was "get as dirty as you can" day (I guess we didn't get the memo). So as long as they were all getting another bath, we let them go outside in the play yard for the first time. As you can see they seemed to have a blast, but got even dirtier. We waited a few days to get updated photos so Wendy's tail could heal a bit and not look so bad. She's doing very well, and doesn't seem to notice that she's missing anything. Wendy is 99% housetrained! She uses the piddle pad, and lets us know when she needs out of her kennel for potty duties (as she needs to be kenneled away from her siblings until her tail heals completely).
UPDATE 5/13/06: Wendy had an accident this morning. The kitty condo fell off the dog crate and onto her. It crushed her tail about half way down, cutting the skin open and breaking the bone. It took a while to get the bleeding under control, but she is resting comfortably now. She will be heading in to the Staples vet tomorrow (Mother's Day) to have her tail amputated (docked). The estimate is $110-$140 (donations are encouraged to help with these costs). UPDATE 5/14/06: Wendy is home from her tail surgery and is doing very well. Her tail is about the length of a weimeraners, and she's going to need to spend the next week away from her siblings, but otherwise she came through it all with great enthusiasm and is contentedly kissing everyone she can get to! The total today came to just over $137.
Update 5/9/06: The puppies have started eating solid food mixed with the soft. Potty training is progressing, and aim is improving, but not perfect. The puppies have been introduced to toys now and enjoy playing with tennis balls and rope toys. They haven't shown much interest in the Kong, Nylabone, or real bone.
Update 5/6/06: Wendy got her first bath! She's going through a bit of a skittish spell, but enjoys napping and playing with her siblings. The puppies were moved yesterday from the livingroom into the kitchen to help with potty training and giving them a bit more space to play.
Update 5/2/06: All puppies now have teeth and are starting on soft puppy food once a day in addition to nursing.
Update 4/28/06: Potty training is a success!! All of the puppies have now used the piddle pad! We will start with outside potty training after 6-week vaccinations.
Update 4/26/06: Wendy balances her time between napping and playing. She's a well-rounded puppy, and is happy to cuddle with people or play with her sublings. She's got a longer coat, and her white continues to be better defined. Her chest and toes are white as well as the blaze on her forehead. She is the largest of the female puppies.
Update 4/19/06: Wendy is starting to open her eyes!
Wendy is one of an unwanted litter of 6 pups born Friday, April 7th 2006. They appear to be lab/shar pei by best guess (their faces are wrinkled). Only time will tell for sure though.
Wendy was the second born. She is yellow with a big blaze up her forehead. At just 2.5 hours old she was the first in the litter to wag her tail! At 24-hours old, Wendy weighed 1 pound, 3 ounces. At 11 days old (4/18/06) she weighed 2 pounds, 6 ounces. At three weeks old (4/29/06), Wendy weighed 3 pounds, 7 ounces. On 6/14/06 when she went in for tail surgery, she weighed 6.3 pounds (with tail).
We are accepting applications now, but these puppies will not be available until they are 8-12 weeks old. At that time they will be current on vaccinations, dewormed, microchipped, well socialized, and started on potty training. As with all adoptions, this puppy will go to her new home with a collar, ID tag, microchip tag, vaccination records, adoption kit, and rabies tag (if 16 weeks or older).
Adoption fee is $150.
Please call between noon and 6pm. We only adopt to homes in Minnesota.
