My Story

Where’s Walker? We couldn’t resist a tie back to “Where’s Waldo” in describing Walker’s summer so far… This happy-go-lucky, big time cuddler, and outdoorsdog has been everywhere! Visited the lake, hung out with human and doggie friends at events, and even visited a sauna (though he didn’t get to go in). He’s looking for a family that wants to continue the fun… forever! Perfect travel size at 35#, approximately 2-3 years old, Border Collie and Cattle Dog mix. He's looking for a family that loves being outside and are ready for a devoted best buddy. Walker is learning to be a perfect gentleman. His favorite part of the day is training time with a little Taylor Swift playing in the background and yummy treats as rewards. He walks nicely on leash and a 30 ft long line for hiking excursions. Nature boosts his confidence, big time. He’s a flexible guy energy-wise, happily joining his family to check out a new state park on Saturday and hanging while they read or garden on Sunday. While his people are not home, Walker should be crated to ensure his curiosity doesn’t get him in trouble. A frozen kong or chew toy helps him settle. Walker prefers to meet new people and dogs slowly – he needs to check you out for a minute before the butt wiggles start. Once you’re friends, wiggles are complimentary with every greeting, whether 5 minutes or 5 days have passed. The ideal family for Walker has herding breed experience. They have teenage kids or only adults in the home. They work at home or are around a lot because being alone is not his jam. They have a friendly, confident dog that is up for a buddy. A fenced yard is important to provide a safe space for him to stretch his legs and lay in the sun on a lovely afternoon. No kitties or young children, please. Like many smart dogs, Walker deals with anxiety and benefits from gabapentin and trazadone in certain circumstances. These are inexpensive medications that the right home may be able to phase out completely. Imagine the fun of waking up to handsome Walker, ready to spend another fun day together. APPLY to adopt this handsome lad at hoabcr.org/how-to-adopt Walker is being fostered in Des Moines, IA. As a foster-based rescue, we do not have a central facility to visit. Meet and greets with specific dogs are arranged once your adoption application (not an inquiry through Petfinder) has been received, processed, and approved. We are located in Minnesota and adopt to an area 400 miles from Minneapolis/St. Paul. Walker's adoption fee is $400 + MN sales tax. He is neutered, microchipped, heartworm negative and up to date on age-appropriate vaccines.
