My Story

Meet our cutest new girl Vinnie! Vinnie was found in Lowe's parking lot chasing motorcycles 4 days before Ike hit. The vet said she is very healthy, weights probably 40-45 lbs at this date, she was less than a year old at that time, probably a year now and looks to be a Vizsla/staffordshire terrier/pit bull mix. She fits the Vizsla description and temperament to a 'T' (see below). She has been spayed, she is heartworm negative, is on heartworm preventative and frontline and has had all her shots and is microchipped and she is very healthy.

Vinnie knows her name and has a very good recall. We are training every day. She is kennel-trained, house-broken. Vinnie walks on a leash (I don't have complete control yet when she sees a squirrel), sits, downs (sometimes), rides well in a car (if you leave her alone in the car, she will miraculously be in the driver's seat when you return). She is a very active, athletic dog, though shy at first. She is all puppy, gangly and goofy, and grabs everything in sight. She loves dogs, plays constantly and holds her own with my 7-yr-old, 60 lb male, shepherd husky mix and is much stronger than him. She likes to chase cats but I have been able to train her not to chase my ferral porch cat. She would do best in a home with no cats. She loves children--played non-stop with my 11 & 13 year old nephews. She is a sweet, lovey, huggy dog.

She spent several days on a sheep ranch in Georgetown while Ike was ravaging Houston. She stood and watched the sheep just on the other side of the fence but never showed an interest in chasing them, the second time she was at the ranch she wanted to chase them. She ran and played with a Border collie her age in a large fenced in area. Vinnie does not bark a lot but barks at strangers and dogs walking by my house. Does not appear to be afraid of anything, storms and loud noises don't bother her.

She will find her way out of your backyard if it is not secure. She jumped a 3-1/2' fence with ease to greet someone and she escaped under my house to join me in the front yard. Although since then she hasn't even tried to escape, she is content. She needs a secure place to run and she requires a lot of exercise. She would be an excellent agility or fly-ball dog. By nature, she is a scent hound, she tracks the birds and the squirrels in the trees. She trys to climb my gigantic pecan tree to get to a squirrel, she jumps straight up the trunk and it able to get 6 or 7' up.

While I am fixing the dogs food, she sits calmly in the other room and waits for me to finish. She sits until I put the food down on the floor. This is a behavior she did herself, I didn't train her to do this so just shows you how smart this baby this!!
