My Story

UPDATE: FOR ALL YOU TROOPER FANS, TROOPER GOT DELIVERED TO HIS NEW FAMILY TONIGHT 12/13. WE HAVE OUR FINGERS CROSSED THAT HE AND THE OTHER DOG WILL GET ALONG, SO FAR SO GOOD. YEA UPDATE; 11/30 FROM OUR VOLUNTEER; Hi!! Trooper was WONDERFUL this week at swimming....everyone there loves him! Today he did laps around the pool. He does not love swimming, but has very good manners, and does what we ask of him :) Trooper is such a sweet and pleasant dog, walks well on a leash and I've never heard him bark. Here are some pics where I think one can better see his beautiful face than the ones currently on PF, I especially like the one I named "baby Trooper" Thanks for the opportunity to work with this wonderful boy....we go next on Monday! Robbin HI! (11/23/04) I'm the volunteer who took Trooper for his swimming therapy today....what a lovely dog, I can't stop thinking about him. It amazes me that dogs who have been through so much, can be so trusting. Here, he doesn't know me from Adam and I come and put him in my car and take him swimming....he was a little afraid of going in the water(who could blame him), but cooperated beautifully. His pic on pf really doesn't do him justice. If I bring along my camera to his next therapy appt, (next monday) and I get a better pic may I e-mail it to you for pf? Robbin http://smallpawsrescue.org/ http://arf.petfinder.org/ A FEW WORDS FROM TROOPER HIMSELF: Ok guys. enough is enough, I have been through enough adventures, My Christmas wish is that I could have a real family to spend my holidays with. PLEASE ***************************** UPDATE: TROOPER CONTINUES TO IMPROVE, HE REALLY NEEDS TO GET TO HIS REHAB APPOINTMENTS WHERE HE GOES SWIMMING. WE ARE HAVING A HARD TIME GETTING VOLUNTEERS TO HELP. WE ARE ALSO LOOKING FOR A HOME FOR THIS BOY UPDATE: 9/27 TROOPER IS DOING SURPRISINGLY WELL. HE MUST HAVE BEEN IN PAIN FOR A LONG TIME, HE HARDLY CARES ABOUT HIS SURGERY. WE ARE HAVING A HARD TIME KEEPING HIM QUIET AS THE SURGEON REQUESTED. IF ANYONE IS INTERESTED IN ADOPTING A PART OF HIS VET BILL WE WOULD BE HAPPY TO HAVE ANY AMOUNT SENT TO US AT OUR PO BOX. TROOPER UPDATE: SURGERY WAS DONE AND WE RECEIVED A CALL AT ABOUT 5 PM THAT SURGERY WENT VERY WELL. THEY EVEN HAD ENOUGH TIME TO DO HIS NEUTER WHICH WAS QUESTIONABLE IF SURGERY WENT TO LONG. TROOPER SHOULD BE ABLE TO BE RELEASED TO US EITHER TOMORROW (9/22 OR 9/23) HE WILL NEED 4-6 WEEKS OF CAGE REST. AFTER TWO WEEKS WHEN HIS STICHES COME OUT WE WILL NEED TO FIND SOMEPLACE WHERE HE CAN GO FOR WATER THERAPY. HE NEEDS TO EXERCISE WITHOUT PUTTING ANY REAL WEIGHT ON HIS VERY BROKEN BODY. This is a story about the latest rescue that Adopt A Pet has undertaken: Here is Troopers story. Wouldn't you think that it was bad enough to own a dog for 5 to 6 years and to have it infested with fleas, when there are great products out there to rid of them. When a dog has fleas he is in constant pain all over his skin. He will become anemic and soon get tape worm. Tape worm makes a dogs stomach bother him and makes him very hungry at all times. If that is not enough to consider abuse then try not feeding this same dog a good meal on a daily basis. After all not getting rid of the fleas and worms will mean that you should feed him more. But that would have been too easy for the owners of this guy. Instead of helping him after he was loyal to them, they chose the easy way out. If they just got rid of him, probably so they could get a new puppy the fleas and worms. But it was too much trouble to go to the pound with him so instead they drove away from their home and left him. While he was waiting for them to return he starting thinking maybe they won't come back. So he thought harder as to what he could have done wrong to deserve this. He was good to them or at least that is what he thought. While he was thinking hard he didn't notice the car coming and it hit him. The car kept going and he could not get up. Soon after a police car came and there was many things going on. The pain that he felt had started to go away when the police man bent down to hold him. "I am saved" he cheered and moments later he was thrown into a pound. Behind bars and not knowing what he did. After hearing this story members of Adopt-A-Pet came to his rescue. The x-rays from the first vet had shown that he is in need of major surgery. They then took him to a specialist who will proceed to place his badly broken pelvis back together piece by piece. His hip was involved also. We cannot turn our back on this dog even though it sounds like he has little going for him. He was laying down not able to walk when I approached him. I placed my hand out to this neglected dog and even though he was in severe pain and all he thought to do was lift his front paw and touch me. His tailed wagged and he felt saved again. We named him Trooper. The difference is that this time he is truly saved because Adopt-A-Pet has him. If it takes us forever to save one dog at a time, that is what we will do. Please feel free to e-mail us about Trooper and his progress. He will need a forever home or a quite foster home for his long recovery. Any one interested in sponsoring him please let us know. A little help goes a long way. Thanks for hearing our story.
