My Story

See more pictures of me at the bottom of my profile!!

Hi! My name is Toby and I am a portly 11 year old beagle.
If you are able to open your heart and home to a "mature" boy such as Toby, you will be rewarded greatly!

Here are some notes from his foster mom:
Toby is a perfect dog for a family with small or big children, cats, and other dogs - but will be fine all by himself too. Anyone that is looking for a low maintenance dog that only asks for companionship in return - he's your guy.

He is FANTASTIC off leash in our yard - can you imagine, a beagle that comes when he's called?! ;) And is always trying to convince us to take him for a walk by trotting half way down the driveway and then looking back as if to say ...."well, are you coming?"

He sleeps in a cushy bed next to ours and happily sleeps 8-9 hours without stirring -occasionally he'll get up to take a drink, but walks right back to his bed for some more Z's

He would love to sleep in bed with you if that's what you want - but he'll need some steps or a low set bed to safely get in and out of on his own!

He has no problem hanging out in the house all by himself if we leave the door open to our porch so he can wander in and out at will, or hanging out in the fenced yard by himself, he just doesn't like to be shut in a small area and left alone so he won't do well in a home where he is left alone for long periods in a crate.

So, if you are a beagle lover and are looking for a dog you can trust with your children or other pets to give a safe home to spend his adult years, look no further, this guy is as deserving as they come!

Toby's self portrait ;0)
I am a handsome fella who loves romantic dinners by candlelight, the smell of food, cuddle time and stimulating my brain with conversation about the latest dog toys. I love loyalty, scratches behind the ears and kind words of praise.

I get along with dogs of all sizes, cats, and especially children. I am the kind of dog who needs a lot of love and would like to go wherever you go....car rides are my favorite. I do have a kennel which I don’t mind going into but please don’t leave me there all day while you are at work.

I have kind of a sad story to tell. I lived with a very nice man for many, many years and he was mentally ill. He gave me way too much food, but he was really my buddy. Just recently, he had to go to an assisted living facility that didn't take dogs. We were both so heartbroken to be separated, but I know he will get the care he needs and he knows I I find a wonderful family that knows even older (chubby) dogs need love too!

Since I am a little bit overweight, my foster mom put me on a diet and exercise program. I walk nicely on a leash and love lying in the sun on the deck or playing in the yard with my foster brothers and sisters. I am looking forward to my new leash on life, finding some friends and a new home. If you'd like a new furry friend, just call, and I'll come runnin'ok more like waddling. Thanks for reading my bio. Call or e-mail soon! I'm waiting! Adoption donation: $150.00

If you are interested in adopting or would like more information about PAWS New England, please check our website:

www.pawsnewengland.com/adoption-form

The adoption donation covers all pre-adoption vet costs (vaccinations, spaying/neutering, HW test/treatment, etc.) and includes their transportation up to New England. PAWS New England is not shelter but a rescue and thus is not funded by any city or state organization - we rely solely on the donations of our adopters to help defray the costs associated with saving these precious lives. Unless otherwise stated, all of our dogs are located in Tennessee at our vet clinic's boarding facility or in foster care. If a dog is "local", that means he or she is at one of our foster homes in New England.

We know you are wondering, "Why would you charge ‘so much’ for a rescue pet? Why not just place it in a good home?" The answer is because we need adopters who are willing to support all rescue pets, not just the dog they adopt. A young, healthy dog might cost us $150-400 in (discounted) vet care, and many people will want to adopt it. An older one with health issues can easily cost $500-1500 in veterinary expenses, and it may require months of foster care for rehabilitation; yet we can only ask a minimal adoption fee, and it may be a long time until anyone comes forward to adopt it. Fees from the younger, more adoptable dogs help offset the cost of caring for the others. Most of our dogs have a sad story to tell, and some have suffered through years of neglect or abuse. We hope that you too are willing to give an opportunity for a better life to ALL of our dogs by supporting them through adoption fees. Without these funds, our rescue efforts would not be possible.
,br> ALL KNOWN INFORMATION IS LISTED HERE. We do our best to give accurate information, but most of our dogs are rescues and don't come with a known history.
