My Story

Timber is Akbash/Pyr, has many Pyr characteristics, but body build, disposition, & many finer point all indicate the Akbash being the dominant breed.  Neutered male. Pure white, (except for the mud), very large, will be X-large when finished growing. We are playing fast catch up with him in regard to vetting, walking on leash, riding in car. Daily storms here have caused us to have a great many muddy dogs. Will update with better photos as soon as possible. Sweet natured boy, gets along well with cats, kids, other dogs, ok with strangers. He is settling in and being assessed, but so far, no major vices, baggage, or behavior issues noted. Not his fault he was never taught anything, but is a quick study, eager to please, and willing. Timber needs to go to a home where an X-large, giant dog will be welcome, with experienced Pyr or Akbash family. At 16 mos, he is 31' tall at shoulder, 45' long from nose to base of tail, weighs 107 lbs & he will grow until age 3. Secure, above ground fencing, veterinary reference, and home visit required. Timber is now, and will become even more so, a drop dead gorgeous, sweetheart of a guy. Photos do not do him justice.

About Us: National Great Pyrenees Rescue (NGPR) is not a shelter. We are a not-for-profit, tax-exempt coalition of Pyr rescuers and rescue groups. We save Pyrs and Pyr mixes across the country and place them in approved foster homes to learn how they will interact with your family. Every dog who is fostered or adopted makes room for another Pyr coming out of a kill shelter. NGPR dogs are fostered for a minimum of two weeks or more, spayed or neutered and fully vetted before placement. NGPR will take back any dog who does not succeed in its new home. Many NGPR volunteers are members of the AKC breed club, adhere to their rescue guidelines for purebred Pyrs and apply these standards to the adoption of Pyr mixes as well. Visit www.nationalpyr.org to learn more about us, our mission and our breed.
