My Story

Tiger and Nikki have the saddest story, the last month has been a rough time for both of them. Their lifelong owner had to move to an assisted living facility because of progressive Alzheimer's disease. For a month, these two have been in the house alone- fed by their former owner's son and the workers who are cleaning up the house for it to be sold.

We found out about the situation and contacted the son.He not want to bring Nikki and Tiger to the pound. At the Memphis Pound, all pit bulls who are surrendered are immediately euthanized- they are not even given a chance to be adopted out. However, he did not feel like he could keep the dogs. He said his father kept asking about them and they had lied and told him that the dogs were in a new home and very happy.

Currently, nothing is farther from the truth. Nikki- the playful outgoing dog of the duo- is very depressed at the clinic. She mopes around and is currently being treated for a severe bladder infection and skin allergies. Nikki is 8 years old, spayed, and up to date on her shots. Tiger is a mess- he curls up in a ball in his run and won't even pick his head up. He is painfully shy and is devastated that he has been pulled out of his home and has lost his owner. Tiger is five years old, neutered, and up to date on his shots.

When these guys are in a home, they are incredibly sweet. They have lived with their elderly owners for their whole life and have a low-medium activity level. Nikki is the social butterfly of the two- she has taken care of her buddy Tiger forever since Tiger has always been timid. They are both so gentle and so needy for love and affection.

We know it is going to be nearly impossible to find someone who will take a senior pit bull and a senior collie/ golden mix- however, we have faith that there is someone out there who will read this and be touched by this story.

Obviously, there is no way that we could ever separate these two guys after all they have been through. Because of this, they will have a drastically discounted adoption fee, which will include their transportation to New England.

Paws New England is not a shelter; we are a rescue and as such are not funded by any federal or state entities; we rely solely on the donations of our adopters who know that not all animals are the same – some require more than others in terms of vet care and thus our donations for all dogs are the same, which includes their transport to New England when applicable (we do have some local surrenders on occasion).
