My Story

5/8/10: Tabitha's foster mom wrote in to gush about how much fun her family is having with this great puppy. She has adjusted well to the routines of family life. She has learned to sit and come when asked, and is learning to shake hands. She sleeps in her crate at night without a fuss and her house training is nearly complete. Her foster mom has also started to teach Tabitha how to walk on a leash.

She's followed the resident dog into the water (they were chasing a frog) but she hasn't mustered the gumption to swim yet. But she loves to wade around and watch the fish swim around under her nose. She loves her toys and might take the plunge and go for a dip if someone throws a tennis ball fvor hr one of these days.

Tabitha hopes to find a forever home where she can play outside, be with her people a lot, and maybe have a doggie friend. Her foster mom expects that once the puppy exuberance passes, she'll mature into a medium energy, super affectionate dog.

Ask about this big sweetheart today and she will keep you smiling with her antics.

4/20/10: BIG puppy with LOTS of love to share! Say hello to Tabitha, and angelic six-month old pup who tips the scales at 42 pounds already. Her foster mom says she has an angelic soul, and she's been nothing but sweet and gentle, especially with her foster family's 8 year old son. They've been practicing leash walking together and having a great time. She LOVES kids - and seems to know she's one herself!

She gets along well with both of her foster family's resident dogs and would probably do best in a home with another canine buddy to learn from, plus she loves to run and play with them. She wishes the cats would play with her, but so far they don't seem interested, which Tabitha finds puzzling. She rolls on her back when she sees them approaching, and wonders why they don't want to wrestle!

Like any young puppy, Tabitha would benefit from formal obedience classes. Her foster family has introduced the concept of house training. They have also been practicing sit and come. She seems very eager to please. Tabitha is in the chewy phase, and she loves toys. She is easily corrected if caught chewing something that's none of her business.

Tabitha doesn't like her crate, and hasn't been spending much time in there. She'd much rather sit with the people.

Tabitha will make a happy, easy-going, playful, but very large addition to some very lucky family!

All known information is listed here. If it is not listed here, then we do not know if this animal is good with cats or kids. Before sending an inquiry, please read the How To Adopt Page & FAQ pages of our website. http:www.almosthomerescue.net. This dog is available unless it is marked as Pending.

This dog is Urgent because the Arkansas shelter where he/she resides is overfull. Please do not ask local shelters to take this dog in, there are many reasons why they cannot. Please also do not send us letters about why we euthanize, AHR does not euthanize, but the shelters we work with do. We are a rescue and we pull as many dogs as we have foster homes and funds for. We, like the shelter, do not have unlimited resources. Please, please: foster, adopt or sponsor a dog to help save their lives.

FOR PUPPIES: HOMES CONSIDERING PUPPIES MUST BE PREPARED FOR:

FLEXIBLE SCHEDULES FOR POTTY TRAINING-THEY CAN ONLY "HOLD" IT FOR ONE HOUR PER MONTH OF AGE.

CRATE TRAINING FOR THE NEXT 10 MONTHS TO KEEP THEM FROM CHEWING EVERYTHING IN SIGHT.

SUPERVISION WITH CHILDREN, AND OBEDIENCE TRAINING.

SOCIALIZATION-A GOOD DOG MUST BE EXPOSED TO ALOT OF STIMULUS AS A PUPPY SO THAT NEW PEOPLE AND ENVIRONMENTS DO NOT INTIMIDATE THEM AS ADULTS. THE MORE POSITIVE EXPERIENCES -IN AND OUT OF THE HOME- AS A PUPPY, THE BETTER.

HOMES THAT WANT TO HAVE GOOD DOGS, MUST BE PREPARED TO PUT THE TIME AND EFFORT INTO TRAINING A PUPPY. IT IS ALOT OF WORK!!! THEIR BEHAVIOR AND STAGES ARE EQUIVILENT TO A 2 OR 3 YEAR OLD CHILD. IT TAKES A FULL YEAR TO HAVE A CALMER, WELL ADJUSTED DOG! PLEASE DO NOT CONSIDER ADOPTING IF YOU HAVE NOT THOROUGHLY THOUGHT THROUGH THE PROS AND CONS OF A PUPPY...SO MANY PEOPLE END UP RETURNING THEM IN 3-5 MONTHS BECAUSE IT IS CHEWING, JUMPING AND HYPER. THIS IS NORMAL PUPPY BEHAVIOR.

PATIENCE, CHEWIES, SOCIALIZATION, SUPERVISION AND OBEDIENCE TRAINING IS A MUST!!

. We pay a Transportation Service from Arkansas to bring the dogs to New England. The adoption fee is $250.00 for altered dogs. $350. for unaltered puppies, with $100 refundable after spay/neuter. All Senior dogs 6 years or older have a reduced adoption fee of $200. This includes vaccinations, spay/neuter and transport from Arkansas to Maine. All dogs will be tested for Heartworm prior to adoption. Almost Home Rescue will process your adoption.
