My Story

Meet SUZIE: Currently, Suzie is in a loving foster family. We are told Suzie's mother was an australian cattle dog, and we believe she has german shepherd and possibly Chow Chow in her breed heritage as well. She weighs ~ 35 lbs. has an ideal, medium build, and true to her breed heritage, she is compact and muscular. (She is a great mix for someone wanting a shepherd mix type without the large size which usually comes with part shepherd heritage!) She is a "pure" heinz 57 mixed breed girl and we think she is beautiful! :-D

SUZIE'S DIARIES: SUZIE'S ADVENTURE! DAY 1 & 2: (according to her foster mom) Suzie is great... She is such a good girl. She met the boys and girls (her fourlegged canine and feline foster siblings) and is doing well with all of the excitement. She is a very nice girl, responsive to sit and come and doesn't jump. She takes food very gently from your hand and eats well from her new dishes. (Suzie is one lucky girl as she is all decked out at her foster home with new food bowls, collar, harness, toys, chewies etc. - the good life she had never been introduced to!) Overall, Suzie isn't a high energy dog, but not a low energy dog, either. She is very good with the dogs, she did chase the cats, but the cats told her what the deal is and she seems to be respecting that. She LOVES my husband. She follows him everywhere he goes and would rather be with him than anywhere else, so men are definitely not a problem. Suzie learns very quickly and is a smart girl.

DAY 3: DISCOVERING LIFE AS A REAL FAMILY MEMBER!

Suzie has figured out what a toy is and has started playing and carrying around her toy. It is so cute! We have been taking all of the dogs on a walk each night. Today, we got up and she and I went for a run. She is gaining confidence quickly. On our run, she was leading the way on Bridle Trials. She is GREAT on the trails. Very confident, but not running off to chase every squirrel or bird that moves. She has a lot of stamina, wore me out, but when we got back home, she took a nap. Later, I am going to bring over the neighbor dog, and see if they want to play together. Then it is our regular walk tonight. That should wear her out. : ) She is a lot more affectionate today. I have been giving her massages to see if there is any place on her body that is a hot spot with her, there doesn't seem to be any. She has learned how to "stand" like for a vet exam and sit-stay. She learns very quickly!

MY NEW LIFE!

Suzie is a great running partner. I have had to seriously get myself back in gear and exercise more, Suzie is helping me with that. We have gone running on the trails three times and she is getting better at it each time. She is very good on the leash, doesn't pull and has an effortless gait. (Just to be clear, I don't actually run, I sort of jog/shuffle. Hee Hee.) Then we go on nightly walks with all the dogs before bedtime and that tires everyone out so we have a good night sleep.

Suzie continues to impress us. She is much more independent since we have been practicing sit-stay exercises with her. She is playing on her own with her toys and the ball. We are also teaching her how to fetch. She doesn't chase the cats anymore and just walks past them now. She is feeling more part of the dog pack, too. She is getting on a normal schedule or feeding, exercise and sleeping. She is eating well, has a good level of energy and is making us laugh everyday.

Some family is going to be really blessed with this dog.

SUZIE GOES ON YET ANOTHER ADVENTURE!

I took Suzie to the barn where I board my horse, Odie. I was concerned she would run after the horses or be out of control, so I had a Plan B, just in case. However, I was very plesantly surprised. Suzie came out of the car, said hello to the other barn dogs, sniffed around for a while, then she followed me to catch my horse out of the field. All of the other horses were also out in fenced pastures. She stayed right with me while I calmly caught my horse and followed us back to the barn. She said hello to the other dogs at the barn and played nearby while I worked with Odie. She was told to stay out of the arena and she did! She was in dog heaven with all the other dogs, people and horses, but never did anything inappropriate. While I rode, I put Suzie in the tack room. She was looking out the window into the arena where I was working with Odie. After which, I brought her out of the room and let her run around and play. There were several people who thought she was "just the right size, had a great personality, and had an excellent temperment."

She was wiped out after we got home and napped for a while before dinner. Another successful adventure for Suzie!

Signing and Pawing off for now!

~Suzie and her foster mom~

Suzie is good with other dogs, about 2 years of age, up to date on her shots and is spayed. She needs a home where she can run and enjoy life. A home where she can learn what it truly means to have a "dog's life" and where she can be treated as the princess she was always meant to be! All of her foster parent's friends (Suzie's admirers) are smitten with her when they meet her! She is going to be a great companion and devoted friend to her new person! If you feel you would be interested in adopting Miss Suzie, please contact us for an adoption application. Please send inquiries to [email protected] for our application. Suzie's adoption fee $125.
