My Story
“SugarBug” came into rescue with severe untreated glaucoma in his right eye--the intense internal pressure blinded the eye and forced the eyeball to stretch, causing what is said to be the pain of a constant, severe migraine, day in, day out. Add fleas and teeth that clearly had no care, and it’s hard to see how this little one can still be so sweet, happy, and loving! Truly “sweet as Sugar, and cute as a Bug!”, he is a compact, 10-pound darling just made for hugging, holding, lap warming and--with his intelligent and loving gaze--warming your soul. His handsome curled tail is never down.
Bug’s fine with other dogs if they don't get in his space, and he's great on lead, reliable and happy outside, good about housetraining, and a delightful lap warmer. He loves to give kisses, even though until his teeth were taken care of, his breath wasn’t very sweet.
Bug clearly has lots of confidence, but when carried he feels best if he can loop his front leg closest to one’s body around the free hand, as if he and the person are holding hands. He sports a hard, wiry coat in shining black and brilliant white that just can’t get dirty or hold water. Bathing him is like trying to lather up outdoor green “grass” carpet: his coat never holds enough water to get a good lather going!
Bug is an A+ little guy, an outstanding companion for a person who can properly look after him and see to his safety. His good eye should be tested with a simple test at least once yearly to see if it has developed glaucoma. Even should he in time become blind, his charm would not fade, and his sweet presence would still brighten one’s days. He is now neutered, bad eye removed, teeth cleaned, healing up and getting ready for His Person’s arrival!
Bug can give so much: all he needs is the love and care that he spent his first 8 years without, a treasure waiting to spend the next 8 years with his human soul mate. If you think you may be the person for him, please fill out the Open Arms Pound Rescue application, and let’s see.
