My Story

PLEASE READ THE INFORMATION IN THE DOG'S PROFILE, AS WELL AS THE INFORMATION ON OUR WEBSITE BEFORE EMAILING US WITH QUESTIONS. Our Volunteers use up valuable time answering questions, when the answers are readily available on our website. Our adoptions come with 30 days of free post-adoption support through Petcademy.org. We are a foster-based rescue. We do not have a facility. MEET & GREETS FOR DOGS IN ONTARIO WILL ONLY BE ARRANGED ONCE AN ADOPTION APPLICATION IS APPROVED. THANK YOU!!! Please visit our website for more information: https://www.niagaradogrescue.com/ or fill in our adoption application: https://niagaradogrescue.com/adoption-application.php OUT-OF-TOWN Dogs with NDR refer to dogs we have saved that have yet to make their journey to Ontario. These dogs are currently in our care with the help of our partners in the area. These dogs will all travel to the Niagara Region once an appropriate adopter or local foster is found. This dog is currently located in: Texas Name: Sugar (20240727-04) Weight: 10 lbs Age: 9 months Gender: Female Neutered/Spayed: Yes Breed: Jack Russell Terrier / Rat Terrier Colour: Tri color - white/brown spots/little black Neck size (for collar): 9" Chest circumference (for harness): 16" Height (from top of head): 15" Length (from nose to base of tail): 24" Crate size recommended: Small Good with adults: Yes Good with kids: Yes Good with other dogs: Yes Good with cats: Yes House trained: Yes Crate trained: Yes Energy level: Low, but enjoys activity and occasional zoomies Can be handled/touched: Yes Barker: She and her siblings barked when a stranger pulled up to their fenced front yard, but now that she's away from them, and single, the only noise she makes is an occasional squeak. It's so cute. Flight risk: No way, she doesn't leave my side in the front yard Food aggressive: No Current food: Diamond Puppy Walks on leash: Decent, hasn't had much training, but walks with you regardless Rides well in car: Yes, very well Destructive: Not really. She has swiped a few plastic things, like an outlet cover (uninstalled) and chewed it up, but if she has a toy she will play with it instead, and only about 20% of the time. She's not much of a chewer. Needs a home with a yard: Not necessarily, she likes to lay in the sun some, but prefers to be with her people Needs a home with another dog: A friend would be a plus, but not necessary. I've seen her play with her siblings when they lived together, but she shows no interest in my big dogs. Can live in an apartment: Yes, in a quieter community Foster insights/story: Sugar is a doll! She is the youngest of three generations in an overcrowding situation which I'm helping with spay/neuter. I've talked the owner into letting go of the youngest so they can find better lives. Sugar has lived most of her life outside, with many other littles to play with. She is by far the most social, friendly, spunky, active and FUN of them all. Her personality shines! She wants to do zoomies through the yard, and then rest on your lap for a while. She is happiest when snuggled next to a person. We've never had any small breed dogs at our house so I was nervous bringing this little girl home to my pack of large dogs (60-92 lbs), 7 yr old son and husband, as she's never been around any of this either. She's warming up to my husband, lets him hold her and takes his treats. She usually zips through the room to avoid the big dogs but she's actually gone nose to nose with each of them. They're very curious and ready to play with her, she seems mostly uninterested. But, the 7 year old - he says they're in love with each other! Check out their photos! They're pretty much inseparable, so she needs to find her forever home soon. She is crate trained - last night she got off our bed and into her kennel on her own; potty trained - no accidents yet; haven't done much leash training; rides well in the car - loves to go!
