My Story

Read Sparky's story below and you will want to take him home. -------------------------- Sparky is approximately a 6 year old Italian Greyhound. He is a very tiny IG. Currently he weighs around 7 lbs, but will gain another 2 lbs before he is at an ideal weight. He doesn't have much hair over his entire body, so he need a few clothes to wear. His little hair is probably a combination of his blue color, diet and genetics. We had a blood test run on sparky and the results showed nothing abnormal. He has been spending a lot of time in his "snuggle sack" keeping warm. Sparky has few front teeth so you catch him with his toungue out frequently, but has some molars left. We have been soaking his food in water so it is easier to chew (after he just got a few teeth pulled), and he is eating fine. He loves to sit on your lap or anywhere warm since he is so tiny. He gets along with the other dogs fine, but doesn't play rough with them. Sparky scratches at his kennel door if he wants out of it, but doesn't make much noise otherwise. Since it has been cold he has not been tested on a leash. Sparky's potty habits are excellent. -------------------------- Here is Sparky's story...It all started a few years ago when Sparky was given to the previous owner by a neighbor who didn't want him any longer. The past owner is a dog lover who could never turn a dog in need down so she took him in to her home. Well, he has been living at the home for the last 2-3 years until a couple of weeks ago when the home caught fire and burned down. The owner of the home couldn't let her dogs suffer such a fate, so she went and rescued ALL of the dogs and suffered severe burns during the rescue of 27 dogs. (They were trying to place some in new homes.) Unfortunately, some of the dogs were so badly burned they did not make it. This woman loved her pets so much that she ran back in to the house to rescue every last dog. The woman is in critical condition in the burn unit of the local hospital and will probably be there for 6-8 months. Sparky was the only IG in the group of dogs. From what I have been told most of the other dogs have already found new homes, and the owner's health is slowly improving. -------------------------- Sparky needs a home with a fenced yard, and probably no children since he is very delicate. Sparky is being fostered in Lincoln, Nebraska. -------------------------- Sparky has found his forever home in Canada where he will have his own blankets and coats to keep him warm the rest of his life. Since coming to rescue his mouth completely healed, he started to get a little fuzz on the sides of his body, and he gained 1.5 lbs and will continue to gain a little more over the next few months in his new home. Congrats to Sparky.
