Sosa

Sosa is looking for his furever home. It will need to have a fenced in yard as the force is strong with this one. Ideally there would be no other pets as welll, not that he doesn't get along with other animals, he just gets along TOO well. He is just soo excited that he overdoes it and doesn't quite yet know how to play nicely. He constantly batters with "playful energy" and the other dogs think it's too much. He needs to learn some reciprocity and let the other dogs get a shot in. He is better than when he came but still has a way to go. He's not aggressive, just non-stop. He is also hyper focused on critters and such, from birds in the air to shadows on the ground he is focused on it all. Again, he is much better than when he came to me. When he first came he was literally attacking the walls with shadows on them, or tearing at the carpet with his teeth. Not sure if it's the meds, the training, the settling in, or a combination but he is much better with it, although he will still scratch at the floor from time to time. The hyper-focus on critters, people, and passing cars will have to be worked on more, we've been working on it and he is getting better. Sosa has a heart of gold. He really likes affection and aims to please. As I write this he forces his way onto the couch and into my lap, nudging the computer away and my hand towards him. He is super smart and learns well. He is completely kennel trained and finds tranquility there. He will occasionally pee in it, but that's mostly when I fall off schedule of letting him out. Sosa is not really a runner to get away and will stay by your side. Until he sees a critter then he's off. He is still very nibbly, constantly trying to nibble at hands...or other body parts for that matter. We've been working on this but I'm not the best at it, mostly because I like to play like that too with my Shepards! He doesn't bite though and is gentle when your hand ends up in his mouth. Sosa will need someone with patience and understanding. Understanding that he is not really a Hellboy, but rather has energy that needs ot be directed, understanding that he really has a heart of gold. Understanding that he needs daily walks, sometimes two, to help alleviate all his energy. Understanding that he may need medication for the rest of his life. I've been wholeheartedly against a Herm Sprenger collar but meeting with a trainer last month completely changed my mind. It was a night a day difference with Sosa. Once I saw that it does not cause pain if used properly, I started training with it. When walking he no longer pulls me along, there is some slack in the leash and he follows direction very well with it. The one I got will go with him. It's much easier to redirect him if we stumble across a critter, or another dog. Sosa is not perfect but really is a good boy, just a little hyperactive. More than the typical Shepard. But with some loving and training he will make a great companion.
