Sophia

Sophia is approximately 2 yrs old in these pictures taken October 11, 2008. She is a little shy and standoffish at first when she first meets you but soon enjoys being with you and going for a walk. Sophia is great on a leash and gets along well with other dogs.

Sophia came into the shelter in March 2008. It took LP volunteers two weeks to catch her. Her former owner had moved away and simply undid her chain from whatever it had been attached too. He couldn't remove the chain from Sophia, because it had become imbedded into her neck. When we caught Sophia, she was immediately taken to a local vet, where the chain was removed, she was spayed, and given all of her shots. It has taken several months for Sophia to learn to trust people. Before, she wouldn't even let you get close. After a lot of work and patience, she now enjoys being with people and will even come up for attention. We are still working with her though.

The family who adopts Sophia will need to allow her to have time to get used to them and learn to trust so that she will feel safe. She needs to go to a quiet home that has children over 12 years old. We strongly believe that given the chance, Sophia will become a very loyal and loving family member.

NOTE: Sophia will be going into a foster home soon so that she can learn what it is like to live in a home and be with a family. A completed and processed application will be needed before an appointment will be made to see her. Thank you for your understanding.
