Backstory: This backstory/bio is being written by the foster dad for Sofia. I’m hoping to give you as much honest information on her as I can in the hopes that she finds a fantastic home where she will get the love and spoiling she so desperately craves and deserves. I have been rescuing, fostering and foster failing for 20 years. At the current time, we have 4 small dogs and 6 cats. I was scrolling my FB feed one morning when I came across a post asking if anyone would be interested in fostering a sweet shy girl who was shutting down at the pound. It had been a couple years since we fostered and we discussed it and decided we would love to bring her home and give her love, a family and a temporary home. We picked her up from the vets office on a beautiful April day and she just melted into our arms. We brought Sofia home to a fenced acre to roam and lots of siblings to meet. Sofia settled in quickly. She was very shy and still is. We quickly learned Sofia does not like to be put in a room alone behind a closed door because she really wants to be with you. We knew we needed to crate her for safety while we were gone and she took to it right away. All you have to do is tell her to get in her bed and she will walk right in. We reward her with a treat when she does. This isn’t actually her bed, she sleeps in our bed and I hope her new family lets her sleep in a bed or at least in the room with them. Sofia had an appointment to get spayed in April 2024. We discovered she had already been pregnant when she was brought to the pound and a month later on May 19th she gave birth to 12 beautiful babies. 10 boys and 2 girls. Sadly, one tiny girl was not ready and she passed away after 2 days. The other 11 grew up to be healthy happy puppies and went to a really nice rescue facility in Ohio to find their forever homes. She was such a good mommy and was sad when her babies left. For a couple days she went to their room and sniffed and scratched at the door. With Sofia’s history in a rural shelter, we did not want her to go back into a kennel environment so we opted to keep her until we could find a foster-based rescue where she could go right into another loving foster or adoptive home. Sofia is a very gentle loving dog. We call her Mama Wigglebutt because she really shakes that butt when she is happy. She is shy and will go out of her way to avoid any conflict with another dog or cat. She has never once displayed any aggressive behavior with any animal or human. She really loves being with people and repeated pushes her nose into your hands to ask for attention. She loves kisses on her head and face and thinks she is pretty when you fold her ears back. She is very lazy, she isn’t the type of dog that likes to run and play. She likes to sit on the couch and be stroked. If she found a home that liked to take her out and play she may learn to love it. She is 95% house trained and if she is taken out to potty often she won’t use the restroom in the house. She goes out, does her business and wants right back in. This may be due to it being hot because she did spend more time sniffing and exploring in the early spring. When she originally came to our home, I wouldn’t have trusted her to be outside of a fenced yard but once she understood that we are her family she has been outside of the fence without a leash and she just stays right beside us. She is a little bit sneaky and will stand up and get something off the kitchen counter if it smells good. She really enjoys riding in the car. We have loved having Sophie with us these last few months. We would love to keep her but with so many other pets in our home and fostering more in need, we feel like she would be happier in a quieter, less chaotic family. One where she can have more one on one attention than we are able to give her. Wherever Mama Wigglebutt lands, she will always be in our hearts and part of our family.
