Their Story:
Snowshoe is a 3 month old Appenzeller, which is a very rare Swiss Mountain dog. The Appenzell is one of four swiss mountain dogs which includes the bernese mountain, the entlebucher, and the greater swiss mountain dog. These dogs are a herding breed, and have been used to pull carts. If this breed isn't working, the odds are, they aren't very happy. They thrive to work and to please their owner. They do good around a family, but seem to stick to one person, and do their best to protect their owner. The appenzeller is also a very enthusiastic guard dog.
Snowshoe was surrendered to the shelter with his brother and his sister, another puppy and her father will soon be up for adoption. The breeder that had the puppies seemed to be in the situation for the money, but many people are not ready to pay the price that he was selling for. Even though he was trying, the breeder did not seem to take exceptional care of his dogs, neglecting to have vet care done, or training any of his dogs. Snowy has been given neccessary shots, but will still need more in the future. Snowshoe does have the typical kennel spin, which dogs will do to get rid of excess energy or frustration. With plenty of playtime and training, the spin will most likely be non-existant. Of the three available puppies, Snowy is the most neutral. He's very energetic, and likes to be around poeple, but is not to either of the other sides. (Ruby is very independant, and Ross is extremely attatched to people.) Although Snowshoe is kennelled with Ruby and Ross, they do not have to be adopted together.
Showshoe is a preneuter, which means once he hits the appropriate weight or age, he will need to be neutered.
Our adoption policys include: No same day adoption. This is to ensure that there are no impulse buys. If you currently have animals or had animals in the past, we need to check with the vet clinic to make sure they are up-to-date on vaccinations. We now require proof of home-ownership due to some landlords not allowing pets. There are also some animals that need to be spayed or neutered before leaving the shelter at the new owners expense. These are known as the prespay or preneuters. These animals include purebreds and bully breeds (the pitbull type breeds) for the dogs, purebreds for the cats, and all rabbits must be spayed or neutered before leaving the building. You can call the shelter at 382-4832 if you have any questions. |
