SHAFER is a big sweet guy! He is 6 years old and he weighs 55 lbs currently, but needs to put on some weight. Shafer came to us in bad shape. Besides being underweight, he's all beat up with lots of wounds. He's been living a rough life. We've treated his wounds and he's sporting that bright blue puffy collar while his wounds heal. He's a good patient, and we're pretty sure he knows that he looks so cute in his blue gear! He loves attention. He has the cutest prance and he's a happy boy. Shafer is house trained and does a sweet tap dance when he needs to go out to potty! Shafer would do best in a home without small dogs or cats. He likes hanging out with puppies here!
Given his lack of care, nobody here was surprised when SHAFER tested positive for heartworms. But please don’t let this scare you away! We just need to get him into a home during his treatment. The cost for the heartworm treatment is completely covered. We can provide you with more info about his heartworm treatment if you are interested in adopting or fostering him (we’d love to find him a foster home!). Once his treatment plan is completed, Shafer will be able to live a normal healthy life with no restrictions!
ADOPTING A PET
We are open for meet and greet adoptions at our shelter on weekends. No appointment is necessary for weekend adoptions. Our weekend hours vary and we also have satellite adoption events every weekend. Please visit our Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/FriendsofKCKAS/ for more info about weekend adoption hours, events and available pets.
We are also open Monday through Friday by appointment. Please contact us by phone at 913-321-1445 or by email at [email protected] to schedule your appointment during weekdays.
If you have a dog or children we ask that you bring them with you to meet our dogs to make sure it is a good match.
Our dogs have been spayed or neutered, vaccinated, dewormed, microchipped and tested for heartworms (if 7 months or older).
