My Story

Sasha's foster family could not give her up as she got on so well with all her foster siblings. She has now been adopted by the Virtue family! UPDATE:
Sasha has had her eye surgery and is so much happier now that she can see better!
Sasha has become more playful and scampers around the yard like a puppy. Sasha sits to have her collar put over her head because she knows it means going for a walk. Sasha is still wary of visitors to her foster home and strangers, but continues to improve in her courage.
Sasha is absolutely adorable and one of the easiest dogs we have fostered. She is well behaved and quiet, and very sweet.
Sasha will need a quiet gentle home where she can feel safe and would be fine with a second dog.

Sasha's arrival to her fabulous foster home:

Sasha is doing great. She has been playing with her foster brother and with toys and loves her daily run in the forest. She trusts her foster mom now and will willingly sit to have her collar placed over her head. Sasha needs a mom, she is still wary of some men, and needs a quiet home as she is still easily startled and scared, for that reason a childless home is preferred. Otherwise she is a sweet well behaved darling who loves to be held like a baby, likes her bath and cleans up her food dish! Sasha has a thick coat and will need to be well groomed.
Sasha may be a bearcoat Shar-pei with pricked ears or a tiny Chow Chow or a mix of both.
Whatever she is, she is adorable. She is a little 30 pound bundle of fur, but undernearth all that fur is a very skinny body.
Sasha has come such a long way in one week! Sasha walks off leash in the forest and meets new dogs and people. Sasha likes to be near her foster mom and her foster sisters and brother. She is a quiet well behaved little bear cub and will fall asleep in your arms as you pet her.
Sasha has responded well to gentle hands and calm soothing voices. She still startles at a sudden movement or noise, but has become so much more confident after only a week outside the shelter.
Sasha will still need to have surgery on a very bad cherry eye, and will also need to be spayed before adoption.
We want Sasha to feel safe and secure in a calm peaceful loving home for the rest of her life.
Sasha is beautiful, and if she is a Chow, she is more friendly and interested in people that any other Chows we have met, which is why we think she might be a Chow/Shar-pei cross.
WE WOULD LOVE TO HAVE A SPONSER FOR SASHA. If you are able to make a tax deductible donation to help with Sasha's care, it would be greatly appreciated.

April 22, 2007:
How Shasha found her way to TnT Shar-pei Rescue, her sad story:

An e-mail sent to us from an employee at the Humane Society of Skagit Valley in Burlington, Washington.

We are desperately looking for a rescue able to take a 1-3 year old Shar Pei that has been with us for 2 weeks.
She is female, and quite small, only 30lbs or so. We have not named her yet. She does have some medical challenges, which are as follows; she has a cherry eye in one eye, but is still able to see and get around, a yeast infecion in her ears, and some flaking on her skin.
She is very skittish, and seems to have had some abuse in her past. She was left outside our facility with a hunting net wrapped all around her that we had to cut off so that sh could move.
She is fine with other dogs and doesn't seem to bother cats or act aggressive. She will have to be euthanized soon if we can't find a rescue to take her, so if you can help us out, please let me know ASAP. She is all black, and all she wants is to learn to trust again.

Once this message was recieved a volunteer was on her way to bring Sasha to her home. Another lucky girl finds her way to foster care with the Virtue family.
Sasha has blossomed in the very short time she has been in foster care and will soon be ready for a very special and forever home.
Please contact us to find out more about Sasha or to donate to her care.
