UPDATE: Feb 21ST, 2009. ADOPTED!!
Feb 6th, 2009. Sandy is still searching for her forever home. She needs a home where someone is around to ensure she is let out frequently to relieve herself. A home without a lot of stairs (such as a rancher) would help Sandy get around much easier and would able her to be included with her people when she wants.
Sandy came to our rescue when the shelter she was in contacted us worried that she wouldn't make it out. She arrived at the shelter spayed and three legged (she's missing one of her back legs but gets along very well). We don't know the story of her past but someone obviously cared enough for her at one point in her life to amputate her leg and get her fixed. Sadly those people appear to be long gone and Sandy landed in a high kill shelter in her golden years when she should have been warming herself by the fire.
What we do know is that she is a sweet old lady looking for a home to love her for the rest of her life. Sandy's hearing and eye sight aren't the greatest, but she's a little lovebug who would like nothing more than to snuggle with you on the couch as well as a little outside time as she loves to sniff around in her foster home's backyard. She may need access to the backyard as she does need to go to the bathroom more often than a younger dog, but is pretty good at telling her foster home when she needs to go outside.
Sandy would definitely do better in a home without too many stairs with her lack of legs but she will go down stairs willingly, it's just the getting back up bigger flights of stairs that she has some problems with. (She's only about 20lbs so carrying her is pretty easy if need be).
We don't know how old she is (shelter's vet guessed her to be 9 years old or so) although she can still be quite animated for a senior. We are looking for a quiet home possibly with a senior or older couple that would love to love our little tripawed until the end of her life.
