ADOPTED! - Sweet little Sammie……He was originally rescued from a “collector” (in Illinois) who wasn’t caring for him properly. After his rescue, he was temporarily fostered by a handicapped lady in the area, but she soon found that she wasn’t able to give Sammie the attention and exercise he needed. So…..he’s now with our rescue group, in hopes of finding the perfect home for a little guy who—in our estimation—is pretty darned close to perfect himself! Sammie is a loving energetic little guy who is just a year and a half old. He loves to play with other dogs, is housebroken and crate trained, he’s neutered and up to date on all his immunizations, he’s heartworm negative and free of intestinal parasites, and he’s even been microchipped!
Here’s what Sammie’s foster familiy has to say about him:
"Sammie is
our first foster dog, and we have found him to be an incredibly accepting and adaptable dog—and a bundle of energy. We like to think of him as 100 lbs. of personality in a 12 lb. dog. He has a darling little stub of a tail as well as those typical expressive Rat Terrier “eyebrows”. Sammie has the cutest little underbite – think of a bulldog's bite on a
petite terrier--but it doesn't
affect his chewing or eating at all. In fact, he's a real chow hound
and even loves chewing the hardest dog biscuits and chew bones.
Sammie’s coat is as soft as velvet and he’s an affectionate cuddler—after he’s burned off some of his youthful classic Rat Terrier energy! Sammy is very long legged and he runs like the wind, so a safely fenced yard (please, no invisible fences) would be perfect for him. Sammy is very agile and graceful. In fact, he could easily be a ballerina…
or a gymnast…or a circus clown! Sammie is also extremely athletic (and he’s very intelligent, alert, and curious--so with a little training, we think he’d make a very competitive agility dog).
Sammie loves to play
fetch. He even actually brings back whatever has been tossed.
Sometime he hangs on to it for a little game of tug-of-war and
sometimes he drops it at your feet to toss again."
Because of Sammy’s delicate build, although he loves everyone, we would prefer that he be adopted by a family or individual who doesn’t have young children.
Also, because he is so energetic and is such a people-lover, Sammie doesn’t want to be a latchkey dog. So, an adopter who works part time, is retired, or works out of his/her home would be the best fit for him. Sammie would love to have a doggie playmate, but it’s not required--as long as his adopter provides him with an occasional opportunity to play with other dogs (such as a doggie daycare center or dog park). Sammie’s adoption fee is $250. If you are interested in possibly adopting Sammie, please e-mail us at:
[email protected] and tell us a little about yourself, your schedule, your lifestyle, if you have a fenced yard, etc. Then, if we feel he would be a good fit for you—and you, for him—we will e-mail you an adoption application to fill out and return to us.

We do not operate a humane society or shelter, so we do not have a facility that is open to the public. Our dogs are fostered by volunteers in private homes, and are not available for viewing until an adoption application is filled out and references are checked. Please read the information on our home page (by clicking on our rescue name above this dog's photo) before contacting us.
