My Story

Sadie is a sweet 2 year old female GSD/Rottweiler mix. We've had her since she was a puppy and while she's very well loved and a part of our family, we've made the hard decision that she'd be better served by another family. Sadie is incredibly smart, loyal, and sweet to her humans. She's professionally trained in obedience (sit, down, stay, break, place, etc.) and she's a people-pleaser so she loves praise and treats when she does it right! She's a very high energy dog, needing space to run her energy off. Ideally, she'd go to a home with lots of land she can run through and explore off leash. She's obedient and quick learning, good with her nose and has some natural herding instincts, and loves when you give her a job to do. She could potentially make a good herding or search and rescue dog. She currently lives with another dog, our 6 year old black lab mix, and in the last year they have gotten in several fights, sometimes ending with Sadie drawing a little blood (no ER visits). While we feel staying in our home with our other dog isn't the best scenario for her, I do think she could do well in a home with other dogs, as long as the owner has experience with GSDs/Rottweilers and behavioral issues like these. We simply don't have the knowledge or resources to manage it anymore. Sadie is excellent with people once she gets past the 'guard dog' in her. She has given warning growls to small children who crowd her space when she's tired/anxious, which makes us a little nervous with a little one on the way. She might do best in a house with adults or older kids only. A perfect day for Sadie would start with a nice run through the open fields, just exploring or playing fetch with her tennis ball. Then, she'd love to nap while you work or tag along with you for your errands. She absolutely loves to be where her people are. An afternoon walk or fetch session around dinner time would get her ready for bed, where she'd love nothing more than to cuddle up next to you for a good night's sleep. She's a wonderful companion, loyal and loving to her respected leader, and just the happiest bundle of fur. It truly breaks our hearts to find her another home, but we can't help but feel she'll be happier and more successful in a family that has the space and time we can't give her. The last thing we would ever want is for her to end up in a shelter, so please only inquire if you truly feel you can fit her needs. Feel free to reach out with any questions. Adoption fee will be donated to support Apollo's efforts to help owners like us. If you are interested in adopting, please complete our Pre-application: https://form.jotform.com/asr628/cp-adoption-app **The animal(s) you are applying for are posted to Petfinder as a courtesy to their owner or foster. As the over population of animals in Texas is at an all time high, this is a way we are trying to help when we don't have room for intake. This application will be sent to the foster. The adoption process will be managed by them. All adoption fees and contracts will be discussed at that time.
