My Story

Ryder is a GREAT puppy! If you're looking to add a pup to your family, I can't imagine you're looking for anything other than a fellow just like Ryder. Ryder is fun, playful, happy and loving. Ryder loves other dogs and does great at the dog park. He has also been off-leash hiking with his foster family and was wonderful. Ryder is a very smart boy and picks up on things very quickly. Ryder enjoys playing fetch and will bring the ball back and drop it for you. He's happy-go-lucky and is not timid. He's quite happy to meet new people and new dogs.

Ryder is crate trained (but fusses a bit at first because he doesn't want you to leave) and rides like a perfect gentleman in the car. Ryder sleeps quietly through the night in his crate. Ryder is still a pup and is definitely in that stage where he is a busy body, chews on things and is sometimes mouthy and jumpy when he's excited. (Yes - he is indeed a puppy!) Ryder is doing well with house training, but is not yet accident proof. He definitely knows he should potty outside and potties as soon as he's let out and told to do so.

Ryder is about 6 months of age (as of the end of August). He only weights 26 pounds and will likely be full grown at around 35 pounds. Ryder has the coloring of a cattle dog (aka heeler), but has bigger ears, a soft, short coat and is not stocky - he has a tall, trim, athletic build. We really have no idea about his breed mix, so we call him a Genetically Diverse American. In case Ryder does have some herding instincts, if you have children or will in the future, you should read up on what it means to have herding dogs around children.

Adoption Process: We are not first come first served. Indigo Rescue focuses on finding good matches between dogs and families to ensure life long adoptions. We deliver all dogs to their new homes.

All of our dogs are in foster homes. We have adoption events at the Beaverton PetSmart every other Saturday where you can meet many of our dogs at once. Click Here for our Calendar of Events. Or, if you're interested in a particular dog, you can send an e-mail via the e-mail link at the bottom of the page ("Email Indigo Rescue") with answers to the questions below. If the dog seems compatible with your situation we'll set up a time for you to meet the dog.

Do you have other pets now? (briefly describe)

Have you had pets in the past? What became of them?

What kind of exercise will you provide for the dog? (type/frequency)

What is your schedule like? How long/often will the dog be alone?

Where will the dog be while you're gone? Where will the dog be when you're home? Where will the dog sleep?

Who else lives in the home? Do you have children? How old are the children?

Are you in a home or apartment? How long have you lived there? Do you have a fully, securely fenced yard? (type/height)

Do you own or rent your home?

What changes in your life are likely in the next 10+ years (or life span of the dog) and how will the changes affect the dog? (moving, job or schedule change, school, having children)

Anything else you'd like us to consider in finding the right dog for your family?

Thank you for your interest in adopting and saving a life!
