MEET RUBY MAE!
Imagine being dumped in 4 feet of snow. Your people leave you. Imagine a rescuer coming by to try and contain you but you couldn't be contained because you were pissed. They called a rescue on the Western side of the state. That rescue was in such a bad mood they didn't know what they were saying yes to but she said yes anyway.... Well we were quick to find out exactly what we said yes to. That first night with the rescue was hell, for both of us. But after that, you realized the rescue person wasn't gong to dump you and made sure you had food, a warm bed and you were loved. So you settled in and quickly got a spay.
Ruby Mae can be a lot especially if you aren't familiar with Huskies... their attitude, there energy, their stubbornness, their desire to be in charge, their deep bond to people and need to be with their person. Ruby Mae is ALL Husky. Every inch of her is a true Husky. Ruby Mae is stubborn and sassy and likes to challenge everyone for the role as pack leader. Once her person as held firm and shown her that pack leader is not her job it is in fact theirs Ruby will take a step back and instead be your best friend. don't worry she will still be sassy and stubborn but for little things not running the house. When you tell her to go outside she might talk back, if you ever leave her inside while you go outside she will through a tantrum until you come back, full on singing for all to hear. If anyone other than her is getting attention she will be sure to insert herself right in the middle, because well she is the most important thing in the world and should be the center of everyone's attention.
All in all Ruby Mae is a sweet, lovable, affectionate, energetic and playful girl, but she does still need to learn a few manners. Car manners would be one of those things. She is so intent on being with you (like literally on your lap at all times) that is exactly what she tries to do, while you are driving. So if we go places she is kenneled for the ride but of course that is horrible and she protests it the entire time (we just turn up the radio and sing along with her).
When in a new place with new people for the first time Ruby Mae will test your limits & boundaries. She will see if she pushes you just hard enough if you will give in to her (don't, or you will have lost her respect and control of her, you are no longer in charge, you no longer make the rules. Ruby has gone on three different trial adoptions since being in our care. The first time the adopter was told that Ruby does not like to share food and is fed separately or watched VERY closely like we are standing next to her while she eats and intervening at even the slightest error. They didn't follow this and there was an incident between their dog and Ruby nothing horrible but it could have been and they were scared so she came back. The second time the adopter was told you have to set boundaries and stick to them you give her an inch she will take 10 miles, she needs rules and she needs to be held to them. They didn't follow this and couldn't get Ruby Mae to listen to them. The third time she was returned because they couldn't get her to slow down and when they tried to kennel her to get her to take a break, Ruby wanted none of that. So she was returned due to not being kennel trained. In Ruby's defense she is not kenneled regularly here. She behaves well in the house, gets along with all the other dogs, puppies, cats, kittens, and people. Yes she is occasionally put into a kennel if things are really crazy or in an emergency does she like it no does she settle after a bit yes.
Ruby needs a home and a family that understands her and is willing to work with her and love her for who she is. She is a very sassy 1 year old Husky. She talks & sings, she sasses, occasionally she will throw a fit which includes stomping of the feet, she has even put herself in her kennel and demand the door to be shut. Ruby loves and adores people so much that she insists that she be with her person at all times or she will through a tantrum. She is also a couch dog, absolutely LOVES her couch, if your animals are not allowed on the couch, then Ruby is not for you. She sleeps on the couch every night and most of the day but when she isn't sleeping on it she is sitting on it starring out the window, cause I mean it is the best view in the house. Ruby Mae is also one of the sweetest most affectionate dogs I have ever met. She loves to snuggle, loves to get pets and belly rubs, love to give you kisses. Just LOVES being with people. Ruby Mae needs a home that will love her through her sass and stubbornness. A home that will be patient but firm with her. A home that will take her on adventures and keep her active but also let her stretch out on the couch when she wants.
Ruby Mae is spayed, vaccinated, microchipped, treated for fleas and dewormed.
A fenced yard is required.
