Their Story:
Ruby is a 3 month old Appenzeller, which is a very rare Swiss Mountain dog. The Appenzell is one of four swiss mountain dogs which includes the bernese mountain, the entlebucher, and the greater swiss mountain dog. These dogs are a herding breed, and have been used to pull carts. If this breed isn't working, the odds are, they aren't very happy. They thrive to work and to please their owner. They do good around a family, but seem to stick to one person, and do their best to protect their owner. The appenzeller is also a very enthusiastic guard dog.

Ruby was surrendered to the shelter with two of her brothers, another puppy and her father will soon be up for adoption. The breeder that had the puppies seemed to be in the situation for the money, but many people are not ready to pay the price that he was selling for. Even though he was trying, the breeder did not seem to take exceptional care of his dogs, neglecting to have vet care done, or training any of his dogs. Ruby has been given neccessary shots, but will still need more in the future. Ruby does have the typical kennel spin, which dogs will do to get rid of excess energy or frustration. With plenty of playtime and training, the spin will most likely be non-existant. Of the three available puppies, Ruby is most independant. She is very much a puppy, and jumps up on people. However, unlike other puppies, she doesn't bite or use her teeth. She'll need good socialization at this time of her life to keep her disposition friendly and happy. Although Ruby is kennelled with her brothers, they do not have to be adopted together.

Ruby is a prespay, which means once she hits the appropriate weight or age, she will need to be spayed.

Our adoption policys include: No same day adoption. This is to ensure that there are no impulse buys. If you currently have animals or had animals in the past, we need to check with the vet clinic to make sure they are up-to-date on vaccinations. We now require proof of home-ownership due to some landlords not allowing pets. There are also some animals that need to be spayed or neutered before leaving the shelter at the new owners expense. These are known as the prespay or preneuters. These animals include purebreds and bully breeds (the pitbull type breeds) for the dogs, purebreds for the cats, and all rabbits must be spayed or neutered before leaving the building. You can call the shelter at 382-4832 if you have any questions.
