My Story

Say Bonjour to Ms. Ruby! This lovely lady is an 8-year-old possible heeler mix with a heart of gold. When she isn't outside adventuring on walks, hiking through the woods, or frolicking at the beach, you can find Ruby relaxing in her foster home on her comfy bed chewing on a toy or bone (most likely quietly solving the world's problems) or napping next to her humans. Her patience with their resident dog Dexter is unmatched; he is usually not so fond of new dogs entering his kingdom, but this gal Ruby won over his heart. She has been very calm, fun-loving, and confident from the get-go, so it appears she'd do great in a furever home with or without a dog. She's also good with kids as a bonus. Ruby has gotten along with every single dog and human she's met so far whether on a walk or at the dog park. Her gentle nature is remarkable, and everyone she meets falls in love instantly. Is it because of her big smile? Her wonderfully calm personality? Or maybe the way she innocently looks into your eyes like she's peering into your soul? It's all of that and much more; Ruby is the whole package. She's not quite as young and spry as she once was, so leisurely walks with a lot of sniffing opportunities seem to her liking. But don't let her age fool you- she has a LOT of life left to live and love to give! Weighing in at 78 pounds, Ruby could stand to lose a few (but shhh...don't tell her I said that). She would probably love to have a fenced-in yard to roam around and relax in, in addition to routine walks. Ruby's eyes light up when she wades into Lake Michigan, but hasn't adventured into full on swimming just yet. She has a relaxed yet curious nature, and likes to stick close to her humans and dog friend when they're around, but also seems to be A-OK when left alone. She's had no accidents in the house and does well with her new schedule. Ruby is a quick learner and a seasoned, loyal companion. Could you be her furever family?? If you would like to be considered as a potential adopter for one of our great dogs, please go to our website- www.luckymuttsrescue.org and submit an application. Our application process includes landlord approval and vet checks. Please make sure all of your information is current and accurate, including a valid email address and phone numbers. Inaccuracies and/or incomplete data will delay and/or cancel your application. We strive to process all applications in a timely manner, but with the high volume of applications we are receiving, it is taking anywhere from 1-3 weeks. You may be contacted via email if there are concerns or questions. Once all of your information is reviewed and if your application is approved, you will be notified via email. Submitting an application and receiving an approval does not guarantee you will be adopting the dog you applied for. Once you move to the meet and greet process, you will be contacted by the foster family to further discuss the dog, and answer questions you may have, and if applicable, a meet and greet will be set up at our adoption center. Meet and greets are only set up with approved applicants, and we require all members in the household to be present, as well as any current dogs in the home. Meet and greets take place at our adoption center located in Milwaukee. If you are proceeding with adopting a Lucky Mutt, we will require the dog to have a Martingale collar at the time of adoption, to ensure the dogs safety during the transition to a new home. Current Adoption Fees Are: $400+tax for puppies to 3 years old $350+tax for ages 4-7 $250+tax for ages 8 and up Bonded pairs vary The adoption fee covers spay/neuter, up to date age appropriate vaccinations, microchip, general deworming, heartworm test, (if over 6 months) and a certified veterinary inspection. Please be aware, listed dog breeds are based on information provided and cannot be guaranteed. Submitting an application for a particular dog does not guarantee that you will be the applicant chosen, we receive several applications for each dog. Our adopters are picked based on the needs of the dog, and the home we feel with best fit based on your responses to our application, vet information and landlord requirements. Approved applicants not chosen for the dog you applied for, will be in active status for a period of six months. We encourage you to watch Petfinder, Facebook and our website for upcoming dogs. Should you see a dog that interests you, please send us a Facebook message or an email with your approval number. Please be patient with us, as Lucky Mutts Rescue is run strictly by volunteers and many of us work full time jobs, have families and also foster dogs. Thank you for considering Lucky Mutts Rescue for your next furry family member!
