My Story

**COURTESY POST** Please contact: TORONTO ANIMAL SERVICES - SOUTH REGION - 416.338.7297 http://www.toronto.ca/animal_services/centres.htm Meet Ronnie: This boy's initial shelter picture doesn't do him justice, as with all the animals at TAS he's getting the Hilton Spa treatment and looks better now that he's been there a while than he did when he came in. Ronnie needed to put on some weight - so weight he's put on - and he looks FAB He's got a lovely large brindle patch on his back and is a healthy BIG Am Bull. Ronnie is over the moon when meeting people, he would benefit from a home with similar breed experience and a home that is willing to take him to training classes (okay, what dog wouldn't). Ronnie is very eager to learn and does look for ways to please you but does not always understand that his large size means jumping up and giving "hugs" isn't always the best way to greet people. He's got a love for playing with toys though will settle from play arousal with firm but KIND commands. He does NOT need harshness but rather consistancy and clear boundaries. When Ronnie is playing he will vocalize if you grab his toy but it seems to be something that could have come from a previous owner encouraging vocalization during tug. You can take a toy right from him and handle his mouth when he's holding a toy and there is no aggressive posturing or forward motion. He leans right into you for bum scratches and sits or lays down politely while waiting for a treat. He sometimes forgets his manners that the shelter staff have been teaching him and tries to jump up but quickly remembers what works to get him a tasty treat. Ronnie has met some dogs that he gets along well with and others that are a no go so if there are other dogs in the home he would have to be introduced first and always supervised with them. He reacted really well (once he got a good sniff in) to Shirley (my female beagle) and is easily redirected if he is too intense. Someone must have told him not to mess with the assessment beagles - he was a perfect gentleman. From initial assessment I'd say he likely would not be best in a home with cats but he was only assessed through the kennel. If you're looking for a big lug of a dog that you can learn with, teach new things to and offer the world to - Ronnie may just be your man. **COURTESY POST**
