My Story

Meet Romeo.

Romeo is a fantastic young boy! Just like you'd guess from his name he's a friendly, happy boy who loves loves loves everybody he meets.

Romeo is probably about two years old. He's tall and beautiful. Mostly black lab. He has white toes and his tail is fluffier than that of a lab. He has a happy-go-lucky lab personality.

Romeo is super duper friendly and happy. He's a big lover. He likes to lean into people for scratches and pets.

Romeo has fantastic doggie social skills. He is friendly and playful. He loves to do play bow to get the other dogs to play with him. When his grumpy foster siblings growl at him he just puts his head down and walks away. Romeo is so innocent and playful that even his grumpy foster brother - who hates all the male foster dogs - started to play with Romeo. Romeo is really easy to love. While at his foster home, Romeo has been to doggie daycare and to the dog park. He does great and has a blast!

Romeo is not much of a guard dog - he's just too friendly and welcoming. He greets everyone with wiggles and wags.

Romeo loves toys and if he can't get anyone to play, he's happy to lay on the floor and chew on a toy.

Romeo is 70 pounds now. He should stay at that nice trim weight. It is what's best for his health and his joints. Ten extra pounds on a dog is like 30 extra pounds on a person.

Romeo does know "sit" and "shake", but he is just a wiggly puppy and his new family should probably take him through a training class for him to be the best he can be. Romeo doesn't try to get on the furniture. Romeo is doing well with his crate training, but does bark if he knows you're still in the house somewhere. He sleeps quietly through the night in his crate, but wants to get up and in on the action as soon as anyone else wakes up.

Romeo takes treats gently and isn't food obsessed like a lot of labs. Romeo was very well behaved when I gave him a bath. He wasn't crazy about being in the bathtub, but stood there and waited patiently. Romeo is good in the car. He occasionally asked if he could sneak up to the front seat, but otherwise just laid in the back.

You will not find a dog with a better personality & temperament!

Romeo won't hurt them, but he does like to chase cats so he shouldn't go to a home with cats. Romeo will be a great only dog or doggie sibling to another full sized active dog, but would annoy a little, older dog. ("Come on! Play with me! Puhleeeease!")

Adoption Process: We are not first come first served. Indigo Rescue focuses on finding good matches between dogs and families to ensure life long adoptions. We deliver all dogs to their new homes.

All of our dogs are in foster homes. We have adoption events at the Beaverton PetSmart every other Saturday where you can meet many of our dogs at once. Click Here for our Calendar of Events. Or, if you're interested in a particular dog, you can send an e-mail via the e-mail link at the bottom of the page ("Email adoption organization") with answers to the questions below. If the dog seems compatible with your situation we'll set up a time for you to meet the dog.

Do you have other pets now? (briefly describe)

Have you had pets in the past? What became of them?

What kind of exercise will you provide for the dog? (type/frequency)

What is your schedule like? How long/often will the dog be alone?

Where will the dog be while you're gone? Where will the dog be when you're home? Where will the dog sleep?

Who else lives in the home? Do you have children? How old are the children?

Are you in a home or apartment? How long have you lived there? Do you have a fully, securely fenced yard? (type/height)

Do you own or rent your home?

What changes in your life are likely in the next 10+ years (or life span of the dog) and how will the changes affect the dog? (moving, job or schedule change, school, having children)

Anything else you'd like us to consider in finding the right dog for your family?

Thank you for your interest in adopting and saving a life!

Indigo Rescue only adopts to homes within 50 miles of Portland.
