My Story

Sept 2007

Reba has arrived in Maine! What a SWEETHEART of a dog! She gets along with all the other dogs in her foster home (3 large males) and loves her people. Reba loves to sleep on the bed and get belly scratches. She takes treats very gently and though she was reported to have problems eating around other dogs, she hasn't exhibited this in her new foster home.

Reba has never been around small children much, and is therefor VERY frightened of them. She could very well get over this with exposure, but at this time we would reccomend a home without small kids.

Aug 2007

I am Reba's foster mom and I can say enough good things about her. What a sweetheart she is. She is perfectly house trained with my doggie door and is already crate trained. She is very good with all my dogs from my 5lb Min Pin to my 90lb Pitbull. She loves my Pitbull and they play alot. She is very gentle with my small dogs.

She sleeps on a dog bed next to my bed and doesnt make a sound all night unless its to warn me that someone is at the door. She has been very sweet to all visitors that come over. She is still young, only 9 months old and is a Rottie mixed with Lab perhaps, as she will not get to be a huge dog. She doesnt jump up or chew on the furniture. She would be a wonderful addition to any family.

Reba is only 9 months old and already has had such a hard life. She was found left in a backyard after her "family" just drove off and left her to fend for herself. The vet said she thought she hadn't eaten in over a week. Shes already been spayed and is now quite healthy.

She's very loyal, sweet and friendly and gets along with other dogs as long as they dont hover around her when she's trying to eat. Could you blame her after going without food for a whole week!!! She is a Rottie mix and probably wont grow to full Rottie size. Rottweilers are very loyal and sweet family members and do well with children if they are taught not to jump up. Since Rottie mixes are so prevalent in Arkansas she has almost no chance of being adopted. She is still very young and can adapt to a loving family life. Obedience training in recommended for this breed.

All known information is listed here. If it is not listed here, then we do not know if this animal is good with cats or kids. Before sending an inquiry, please read the How To Adopt Page & FAQ pages of our website. http:www.almosthomerescue.net. This dog is available unless it is marked as Pending.

This dog is Urgent because the Arkansas shelter where he/she resides is overfull. Please do not ask local shelters to take this dog in, there are many reasons why they cannot. Please also do not send us letters about why we euthanize, AHR does not euthanize, but the shelters we work with do. We are a rescue and we pull as many dogs as we have foster homes and funds for. We, like the shelter, do not have unlimited resources. Please, please: foster, adopt or sponsor a dog to help save their lives.

FOR PUPPIES: HOMES CONSIDERING PUPPIES MUST BE PREPARED FOR:

FLEXIBLE SCHEDULES FOR POTTY TRAINING-THEY CAN ONLY "HOLD" IT FOR ONE HOUR PER MONTH OF AGE.

CRATE TRAINING FOR THE NEXT 10 MONTHS TO KEEP THEM FROM CHEWING EVERYTHING IN SIGHT.

SUPERVISION WITH CHILDREN, AND OBEDIENCE TRAINING.

SOCIALIZATION-A GOOD DOG MUST BE EXPOSED TO ALOT OF STIMULUS AS A PUPPY SO THAT NEW PEOPLE AND ENVIRONMENTS DO NOT INTIMIDATE THEM AS ADULTS. THE MORE POSITIVE EXPERIENCES -IN AND OUT OF THE HOME- AS A PUPPY, THE BETTER.

HOMES THAT WANT TO HAVE GOOD DOGS, MUST BE PREPARED TO PUT THE TIME AND EFFORT INTO TRAINING A PUPPY. IT IS ALOT OF WORK!!! THEIR BEHAVIOR AND STAGES ARE EQUIVILENT TO A 2 OR 3 YEAR OLD CHILD. IT TAKES A FULL YEAR TO HAVE A CALMER, WELL ADJUSTED DOG! PLEASE DO NOT CONSIDER ADOPTING IF YOU HAVE NOT THOROUGHLY THOUGHT THROUGH THE PROS AND CONS OF A PUPPY...SO MANY PEOPLE END UP RETURNING THEM IN 3-5 MONTHS BECAUSE IT IS CHEWING, JUMPING AND HYPER. THIS IS NORMAL PUPPY BEHAVIOR.

PATIENCE, CHEWIES, SOCIALIZATION, SUPERVISION AND OBEDIENCE TRAINING IS A MUST!!

. We pay a Transportation Service from Arkansas to bring the dogs to New England. The adoption fee is $250.00 for altered dogs. $350. for unaltered puppies, with $100 refundable after spay/neuter. All Senior dogs 6 years or older have a reduced adoption fee of $200. This includes vaccinations, spay/neuter and transport from Arkansas to Maine. All dogs will be tested for Heartworm prior to adoption. Almost Home Rescue will process your adoption. Applications can be found at www.almosthomerescue.net and can be e-mailed attention of Christine: [email protected] for this particular dog.
