His owner released him to rescue after a neighbor child kicked him and broke two of the bones in his leg, just below the knee. As is all too often the case, the owner decided it would be less expensive and less hassle to replace the puppy than to repair the leg.
Rascal is a purebred, with AKC papers. Nobody at the rescue can speak for the quality of the parents, but we do have a copy of his registration papers from the breeder, so if that's important to you, he should be registerable. He is currently 4.2 pounds; as an adult, he will probably be less than 8 pounds.
He is not neutered yet, because of his age. Agreeing to neuter him will be a requirement of adoption.
Rascal had surgery Tuesday 4/14 to pin his leg. He will need several weeks of restricted activity to allow the leg to heal, and at 1 or 2 visits for re-check x-rays to monitor healing.
With surgery and associated care, we've already spent about $1500 on the little guy, so even if you cannot adopt him at this time, we'd truly appreciate any donations you can make towards his cause. All donations are tax-deductible.
We do not usually set a minimum donation for adoption on my animals, but because he is needing so much work, we're afraid that we have to ask for at least a $100 donation.
4/16: Rascal has been offered a home with a technician at the referral hospital! This is an ideal home for him, because he will be regularly available for follow-ups by a great orthopedic surgeon.
