My Story

Adopted 2-4-10 Location - West Hartford, CT Foster Lisa says: Beau continues to be a pleasure to foster! He is such a sweet dog and just LOVES to be on the receiving end of pats, rubs and scratches. After only 4 days of treating his ears they already look infinitely better! It makes me so happy to know that he won’t have to suffer the pain of untreated ear infections any longer. He is eating well, although he is turning out to be a canned food connoisseur. He is less thrilled about kibble and we are happy to oblige! It’s my hope that this very deserving Golden will find his forever home soon. THANK YOU SGRR for taking Beau into rescue and for blessing us with his company! Bio - Meet Rambeau - "Beau" as he is affectionately called. Beau is a big, beautiful almost 10 year old Golden who was sadly brought to a shelter because, according to his "family", he was not eating and was soiling in the house. The Humane Society knew this sweet old boy had a lot more love to give. Thanks to them and the networking of loving folks, Beau found his way into the SGRR program. As his foster mom, let me assure all out there - this sweet boy most certainly is completely house trained! He has been the perfect houseguest. As for eating - we are trying some yummy soft food for him which he eats without complaint. Beau's ears are in pretty poor condition - it's obvious he has endured YEARS of ear infections. It's entirely possible he stopped eating kibble because he was in such discomfort. We are treating his ears daily - and already they look better. He is also being given probiotics to help balance the yeast overgrowth in his ears. At present his hearing isn't the greatest. While he alerts to sound, he does have a hard time locating its source. Beau walks with his head tilted to one side - we are unclear at this juncture the cause, but it's possible years of neglected ear infections may have something to do with it. Beau also has a large cataract in his left eye and his vision is somewhat limited. Despite his slightly dulled sight and hearing Beau is every inch a typical Golden. He LOVES people and affection! He is gentle and calm - a true gentleman. Beau is getting along very nicely with the other dogs in our home - they are a range of ages and sizes, and he communicates well with them all. He will let the other dogs know when he is uncomfortable with them if they rush up to him without giving him adequate time to process their presence. His limited sight and hearing make it necessary for him to take an extra beat or two to suss out who is where. The other dogs seem to honor this and are learning quickly to adjust their behavior accordingly. Beau has been graciously tolerant to their learning curves. Beau is great on a leash and shows little evidence of arthritis. He's a wee bit slower to get up than the young guys, but he can manage 2 flights of stairs very well. He has not tried to get up on furniture and he has yet to jump up on anyone. Beau will do beautifully in a home with or without other animals. The shelter tells us he was fine with cats. What Beau requires is someone with whom he can spend his days. He is a loyal and loving animal who deserves to find a quiet, comfortable home in which to spend the rest of his golden years. He deserves to be the center of someone's world - probably for the first time in his 10 years. Stay tuned as we learn more about this wonderful Golden! All potential adopters need to complete our online application and participate in our pre-adoption review process, including a home visit, before being approved. In some cases, the specific dog you are interested in may have found a home before this process is complete or further assessment may find that this dog is not the right match for your family. We are regularly getting new Golden’s in need of a home, so we encourage you to apply and get approved so that when the right dog comes along you will be ready. The information provided on each dog is based on observations of our vets, volunteers, fosters and when available, trainers. While we do our best to report any and all issues, SGRR does not make any guarantees as to the health or temperament of any dog. Dogs evolve differently in different environments and we cannot predict with any certainty how the dog you adopt will act in your home.
