We are a pure-bred English Bulldog rescue located in the state of Illinois but serving the Midwest. To determine if you qualify to adopt one of our adorable bullies view our
Adoption Criteria and Adoption Area Map.
We serve Chicago-proper and the surrounding suburbs, Illinois, Northwest Indiana, Southeastern Wisconsin including Milwaukee and now will accept intakes from Ohio and Missouri. Our adoption radius expansion to Ohio will be coming soon!
CEBR’s Directors and core volunteers are members of the Bulldog Club of America and the Bulldog Club of America Rescue Network. What that means for adopters, surrendering families and shelters is that our bullies get the highest level of care and commitment. They spend their time with us in foster homes where they get daily love and attention.
We are an Illinois licensed shelter and a 501c3 charitable organization. The care we provide our English bulldogs includes a high quality diet, the best veterinary care around (from a bulldog specialist!), and behavioral evaluations of the highest quality. Each of our rescued bullies typically costs CEBR more in care than the adoption fees we collect – on average $536 per bully. Your contributions to help care for our bullies would be so appreciated.

Hey! Hey! My name is Punky B. I am 4 and a half year old and I’m loving this new shot at a great life! You see, some mean people at the puppy mill that I was rescued from used to keep me in a cage all the time that was grossaroo and made me have lots of puppies. Well, with the help of CEBR I said, good riddance to that place and now I’m looking for my forever home. I weigh fifty pounds and although some ladies like the thin look, that’s not what I’m going for. I love treats…ooh yum! And this food that my foster mommy and daddy give me is delicious! I heard I could put about five more pounds on…yippie! That curvy lady look is much more attractive than being able to feel my spine and ribs so easily. Bring on the eats! I already melt people’s hearts I’m so darn cute. I’m thankful to be healthy; I am up to date on shots, heartworm free and will soon be spayed. I do have a little bit of a skin rash but we’re getting that under control with a few days of antibiotics. This thing my foster mommy and daddy call love is really great. I’m so excited to meet my forever family.
My foster parents just get a kick out of me when I wag my little tail. I don’t really wag just my tail though, my whole rear end wiggles back and forth and it makes me look funny when I try to walk toward them. I get so very excited to hear my name and these very nice things they say to me. Let’s be serious…once I get going, everything wiggles from head to toe. I can barely make it over to people to pet me with all the wiggling before I bury my wiggling face in them for lots and lots belly rubs, scratches behind the ears and just all over.
I have bright, sparkly brown eyes and I can really turn on the charm when I see a hand coming my way to give me some good rubs. I love the bathtub and I behave like a princess when I’m getting the suds worked into my coat. I don’t mind when you clean my wrinkles and I’ll even lift up my feet so you can wash those too. Who likes stinky feet anyway?
On my way home from that bad puppy mill, I “Houdini’d” out of my crate and was happy just relaxing in the back of the car. I have a nice big crate that I am very comfortable hanging out in at my foster parent’s house right now. That’s all that I have known my whole life so it’s a good safe place for me to go to when I feel I get a bit too adventurous when I am out of it. They keep the door on it closed at night and during the day when they are at work but the rest of the time it is wide open and I come and go as I please. As far as making friends goes, no problem there! My foster mom and dad have two bulldogs, a boy and a girl that they adopted from CEBR, and there is also another furry little thing called a “kitty” that lives here. I really like them all! They are nice to me and I am very nice to them. We all took the time to get to meet one another and it was smooth sailing from there. I like playing with my foster sister Gertie a lot. She stomps around me to get my attention and even shares her squeaky toys with me!
I was lying around my room the other day and started alerting my parents of the commotion outside. I don’t have a loud bark but what I saw outside the patio doors was cause for concern. When they told me they were just shadows and that I was all right, I calmed down. All of these new things really keep me on my toes I tell ya. Riding in cars is neat too! I like to stand in the back seat to see what’s going on.
I don’t have any problem on the stairs. In fact, I heard the Olympics might be in Chicago so I started practicing my sprints. I zoom around so fast outside in the grass and on the stairs that you can almost see smoke behind me. Well, maybe I’m not that fast, but I sure can move I tell ya! I like to investigate every inch of the yard and something draws me to the edges by the neighbors but mom and dad tell me to come on and I continue moving on. This thing I hear them call a garden is really neat. It smells so yummy and it has a lot of colorful things in it. I don’t get to go in but they let me look at it and sniff it at the fence. I sure am a curious girl! And listening, no problem there. But please be patient because I know that there are a lot of great things to do outside of my crate but sometimes I’m unsure.
My mommy and daddy keep saying this thing called potty. I never tell them when I have to go but they take me out every few hours when they are home and I go on the lawn then get a treat. When they are at work, I do not have any accidents in my crate…aren’t you impressed? They do stop home mid-day to let me out and stretch my legs. They were kind of concerned because they take me out often but I don’t always have to go so we walk around for a long time. I like exploring the yard. The doctor told them that from being in that terrible puppy mill, I have an iron bladder from holding it. I didn’t want to go in my house or on any other bulldogs so I would just hold it. I don’t mind when you clean my wrinkles. I don’t know any commands though like sit, lay or stay but I would be willing to try to learn if there were some treats involved. I like string cheese or any people food for that matter.
My perfect forever home would be one with a very loving person or two. I have never met what you people call human children so I don’t know if I like them but am so gentle and kind that I’m sure I would. I know I like the bulldogs and kitty that live here so I would not mind living with them at my forever home either. I would appreciate it if you had a yard or some green space to take me to. Grass is very neat! It feels funny on my feet and I like the way it smells; that’s why I lay down in it sometimes. I would like a home where I can get lots and lots of attention because let’s face it, I deserve it! I would like to be let out mid-day if possible because it kind of breaks things up for me and if I have to go, I really wanna be a good girl and do it outside. I like to walk around outside a lot.
Well, it’s time for me to get back to playing with my sister that lives here then it’s off to bed. I’ll be dreaming of my new forever home where I will be loved so very much and treated like a little princess. I’m excited to be adopted. I’ll be waiting right here for you to make it happen, so get to it please!
