My Story
Princess Dawn Peanut Butter Cup, as she is shown on her registration, is, indeed, a “princess,” according to her foster mom! She is 2 ½ years old, and her birth date was Jan. 23, 2006.
A smooth Jack Russell terrier, Princess was surrendered to Illinois Humane when her owner could no longer care for her. Having seizures sometimes, Princess takes inexpensive medications twice daily and does them eagerly … for a treat! Because Princess’ previous owner felt sorry for her with the seizures, she tended to spoil her a bit and overdo it with the treats. Consequently, she was overweight (at 26 pounds) on arrival with Illinois Humane, but her foster mom has managed – with walking, some obedience and agility practice and controlled diet – to help Princess shed a bit more than five pounds. She probably needs to lose a couple more. She is quite calm, but with the weight loss, she is getting more active.
Princess is extremely human-bonded and gets along with other animals. Some cats are fine with her; others aren’t. Princess craves attention and would be a wonderful companion for someone who wants a dog to keep them both healthy with walks and some chilling out on the couch at other times.
When first taken in, Princess appeared not to be housebroken, but she has improved greatly. She still has accidents sometimes in her crate overnight, but she has definitely improved and will continue to with a patient, loving, consistent owner. She’s well worth the effort.
