My Story

About Pop-Tart: If shes barking, she wants to meet you! Having been crated for so long and barely able to walk, I made an effort to socialize her with my neighbors by taking her to potty in the front yard. Now when she sees new people or those she knows, she barks to greet them. Once she has their attention, she is all wiggles and meeting people is one of her favorite things to do. Shes so excited she just cant keep it to herself. She met a toddler the other day and did fairly well (she was enchanted with him immediately) but I kept her on her on a tight leash because, still be very much a puppy, she likes to put everyone and everything in her mouth. She can be quickly reminded of her manners with the command no bite and has never broken skin, its just a puppy thing. Keep an eye on the little ones until she is able to calm herself. Despite her long road, she is a joyful, playful, pup! This baby came to our care at 4 months old and we suspect shed been hit by a car. Her injuries left her needing long periods of cage rest and then major surgery. She has had a double FHO which means the ball joints from her legs to her hips have been removed. She has recovered well but still needs time to get her muscles built up. She will probably always have a titled gait and bunny hops when she runs which is super cute. She should not suffer from hip dysplasia as the surgery shes had is the same recommended for severe cases. Shes in high spirits and ready for her next chapter in a home where she can reach her full potential. She really wants to be part of a pack and will follow on whatever adventures await. She seems to have a good recall to Hestia which is what I was calling her before the shelter gave her a name too. Hestia. is the Greek goddess of home and hearth. She knows: come, sit, paw, wait, get in the house, kennel (treat preferred), and is particularly good at no. Lay down has not been worked on as much due to discomfort but she will do it by following a treat to the floor. We have not worked on stay seriously. She seems to be affection or treat motivated when affection is unavailable. There are dogs in the house but she has not had the opportunity to play with them as she hasnt been able to wrestle. She barks because she wants in on the action if she can see or hear them so she should do fine with a slow introduction to another dog. She has been around dogs savvy cats and will chase if they run; when she catches up she has not harmed them. The chickens in the coop are fun to scare by lunging at them but she may grow out of that once its not fun anymore. She should do well in most households as long as small children are monitored. She is easily trainable and exactly what we expect from a German Shepherd: friendly, sweet, protective, and energetic puppies.
